About Zaira

Zaira arrived at the shelter in Cyprus after the local dog warden found her wandering the streets without a collar. A quick scan confirmed she wasn’t microchipped, and despite efforts to advertise her as found, no one came forward to claim her. Since then, she’s been patiently waiting for a second chance. We thought Zaira would get snapped up - not only is she gorgeous but she has the most lovely temperament too. However, she’s yet to be so lucky.

Zaira is around two years old and has a beautifully calm, composed nature. When she first came into the shelter, she was cautious and reserved, very uncertain of the volunteers and quite standoffish. With time, consistency, and the reassurance of a routine, she has relaxed and settled in really well. Her confidence has grown steadily, and she’s now much more comfortable with people. She loves the volunteers visiting at the weekend so she can go out for a walk and enjoy a cuddle!

Zaira is an observant and gentle dog who rarely barks, even when the shelter is at its noisiest. She shares her compound with several other dogs, both males and females of different sizes and temperaments, and fits in without any issue. She gets along well with everyone, showing patience and tolerance, even when the dogs around her are more boisterous or energetic. While she’s sociable and enjoys the company of other dogs, she doesn’t rely on them and would do just as well as an only dog.

Zaira is also very good with people. She doesn’t take too long to warm up to someone new, and she enjoys attention, but never demands it. She has a very balanced temperament that makes her easy to manage. Although she’s not had loads of exposure to kids, the children she has met she has been great with and we think she’d do well in a home with littles ones aged 6+.

Zaira is adaptable and we think she could adjust to a number of home environments provided she’s given time and patience to settle in and adjust. She’d welcome a bit of calm after the fast paced life of the shelter, but she’s not scared and fearful, and we think could cope in most settings. She would enjoy a moderately active lifestyle where she can stretch her legs and explore, but she doesn’t need constant stimulation or high-energy routines. What matters more is consistency, kindness, and the opportunity to be involved with her new family and their day to day.

Zaira asks for very little but has so much to offer in return, and we know that in the right environment, her personality will continue to grow and shine. We can’t quite work out why she’s been overlooked for the past few months, but we’re hopeful that the home for her is out there somewhere!

Zaira is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
