We work on global projects with trusted partners across four continents. We believe strong collaboration and alliance with local partners delivers more for every generous pound that is donated.

Featured here are our current partner projects. If you would like more information about any of them, do email us at hello@theunderdog.org

Dog Rose, Romania

The transition from a communist state in 1989 to a now capitalist state has had many repercussions, two of which are: 1) the significant increase of stray dogs, due to families turning their dogs out to the street as they couldn’t afford them, leading to a growing stray dog problem, and 2) the huge numbers of children who were left compromised and homeless. Even now, over 750 babies each year are abandoned in hospitals, and 75,000 children live in state institutions. We work Dog Rose, Romania’s first ever combined animal shelter, education hub and therapy centre, to help rehome dogs and educate local children.

Comfort Dog Project, Uganda

Uganda

Uganda is one of the most impoverished places in the world, where people suffer from poverty but also from war trauma. Here, the healing power of dog companionship help war trauma survivors using psycho-social rehabilitation - stray dogs are rehabilitated, trained and placed with war trauma survivors. We also run a programme targeted at educating children in schools using therapy dogs. In 2021, our programme will reach over 40,000 children. Alongside the class sessions, each school has the legacy of a mural showing the positive bonds between dogs and children.

Dogs in Schools, UK

Underdog International_1.jpg

We have a network of approved therapy dogs who visit schools across the UK. There are two main areas that our therapy dog volunteers focus: 1) Dogs in Schools sessions to larger groups of children; sharing life lessons around kindness, compassion, positivity and resilience, and 2) our Special Dogs for Special Children sessions where therapy dog volunteers provide regular visits to schools and associations, to help build bonds and relationships with children who have mental, emotional or physical needs.

Slaughterhouse Survivors, China

The cruel dog meat trade sees thousands of dogs each year brutally slaughtered for their meat. Many of the dogs who find themselves in the meat trade had once belonged to someone and were stolen. Another big supply of meat trade dogs come from puppy mills, once the puppy is considered too old and ugly for sale, then breeders will sell them off as meat to cut their losses. Underdog International partner with local rescue organisations to tackle this horrendous trade head-on through education in local schools, plus dog adoption and rehabilitation.
