About Alfredo

Alfredo was found as a stray in Cyprus and was brought into the municipal shelter by the local dog warden. He has been with us for a few months now and despite his lovely temperament he’s been yet to find the right forever family.

Alfredo is a beautiful dog and is estimated to be around 3.5 years old. He’s quite the ladies man and the female dogs he’s shared his compound with during his time in the shelter have all been very cuddly with him, but he has struggled a little with more dominant males. Unfortunately Alfredo was attacked by another male dog and this has caused him to be wary around unneutered males, especially if they’re quite boisterous around him. At the moment Alfredo shares his kennel compound with five other dogs, three females and two males, of whom get along due to their compatible temperaments. He would be best suited in a home environment to living with a female dog we think. Equally, he’d be fine as the only resident dog.

Alfredo is very human focused and bonds with individuals very quickly, especially when a little positive reinforcement training comes into play. He loves treats and behaves impeccably for them. He is incredibly clever and loves to learn new things, so training is essential to building a strong bond with Alfredo and instilling a sense of understanding as to how to behave in a conventional home setting, something we’re unsure if he’s ever experienced properly before. He is so sociable and human oriented, so he trusts new people quickly and is keen to please. 

Alfredo has attended some adoption days here in Cyprus and lapped up the attention from new people. He’s confident and calm around strangers, and responds well to new experiences, taking everything in his stride. We have discovered that he’s not suitable for a home with cats as he loves to chase the strays! With children Alfredo is very gentle and well behaved, so we think he would be best suited to a home with children aged 8+.

Alfredo’s ideal lifestyle would be with an active family who spend a lot of quality time outdoors, enjoying long walks, focusing on training and enrichment, and ideally who do have some previous dog ownership experience. He’s not a difficult dog, but he needs a family who understands what makes smart dogs tick. Alfredo is super loyal and would make an excellent companion given the chance. He would also be best suited to a home with a garden as he loves being outside, especially in the summer when he can sunbathe!

Alfredo is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
