About Filou

Filou was roaming the streets of Cyprus when he was picked up by the dog warden and taken to the local council pound where he remained for months until a local rescuer was able to take him into her care. He has now settled onto the shelter and is doing really well, but now it’s time to find his forever home.

Filou is a young, active and inquisitive dog. He’s very outdoorsy and loves being out on walks or exploring in the fields, so he is definitely looking for an energetic lifestyle. He’s still only around a year old and considering he’s spent the last few months of his life in a shelter setting, it’s likely that Filou has never experienced what it’s like to live in a home before. This in mind he will need a patient, understanding and gentle adopter who can allow him to adjust at his own pace with plenty of reassurance.

Filou generally walks well on the lead but can pull with some significant strength if something sparks his interest. He needs some basic training and continued socialisation, but he’s very human focused and food oriented, which will make training with treats easy! When he came to the shelter he was starving, but he’s quickly become quite the greedy guzzler. He’s a big fan of treats and mealtimes, so using food as a positive reinforcer will really help him to learn new things.

Filou is great with other dogs in the shelter and we haven’t observed any issues between him and the other residents. He shares his space without any trouble, and we think he therefore could live alongside another resident dog. We think that he’s too strong and active to be the ideal dog to live alongside cats, and due to his energetic nature and jumping up we also think children aged 8+ would be preferable, so as not to overwhelm anyone.

Filou is looking for an active home based in a semi-rural location with access to a garden. A young dog without any real understanding of a companion lifestyle, it’s important his new family are committed to giving him necessary time to adjust, as well as continuing his socialisation and beginning some basic training. He wants to please and he picks up new things fast, so given the chance we think Filou will make excellent progress in the right home with a bit of patience. He is a very loving soul and just wants to be part of someone’s family.

Filou is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
