About Decker

Decker arrived in the shelter just after Christmas. Yet another intake from the dog warden, he had been found as a stray looking for scraps near the bins. It came as no shock that Decker didn’t have a microchip, and considering he was found in the middle of the Cyprus hunting season, we think he was probably a hunter-to-be who didn’t make the cut.

Decker is quite frankly adorable. He has such a sweet, loving and genuine personality, and he is always so keen to interact with new people who visit the shelter. He shares his kennel compound with seven other dogs of his size and he co-exists with them very well. One of the dogs he plays nicely with and they get on as friends, but the other dogs are a bit mean to Decker so he’s learned to stay out of their way to avoid getting nips on the ankles. Whenever this does happen, Decker just turns away and walks off. He’s well socialised and knows the canine code pretty fluently, but he’d much prefer to be surrounded by other dogs who want to play and goof around with him. We do feel he’s being slightly bullied in the shelter and would really like to secure him a home sooner rather than later with this in mind.

Being a young and energetic breed mix, Decker is looking for a home based semi-rurally with an active family. He needs a home with direct access to a secure garden, and would absolutely love to go out for walks, runs, or maybe even cani-cross with an outdoorsy adopter. He’s not the best on the lead at the moment and gets a bit bewildered when he’s taken outside, but this will come with time and training, and he is so keen to please and eager to learn, so we don’t envisage it being something that will take Decker long to get to grips with. He’s also skinny at the moment as a result of his background and will need to gain some weight which may take a while.

Decker is a little bouncy, but there’s not a bad bone in his body and he could definitely live alongside children aged 6+ we feel. He has always been mindful of his size even when interacting with adults, and although he’s not a very big dog he can get a little bouncy with excitement at times. He could also live with other dogs, but would prefer a friend who would like to play with him, and although he’s not been tested with cats we think based on his estimated breed mix he might be better suited to a cat free home. Decker is going to make a very fun loving companion and as he’s only a young dog he has heaps of potential in terms of training too, which he would love to engage with.

Decker is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
