About Rikkos

Rikkos came into the care of one of our amazing rescue partners in Cyprus after his family moved overseas and were unable to take him with them. Poor Rikkos was due to be left behind without anyone to care for him and he would have otherwise ended up in the pound. Luckily for him, the right person found out about his plight, and now he’s safe and sound, waiting for his new forever family to find him.

Rikkos is a lovely, typical beagle. He loves his food more than life itself, he loves being out and about on his walks, sniffing everything in sight and taking in nature, and he is also incredibly sociable. Rikkos loves both people and other dogs, and loves being a part of the action. He’s never late to the party and is always keen to get involved in the playtime and cheeky antics he and his foster friends get up to. He’s a social butterfly and loves being a part of a crowd. He is also however confident enough to thrive without the constant companionship of other dogs, and would be comfortable in a home on his own too.

Rikkos is a sweet boy and likes to learn. He’s clever, but can be easily distracted at times, especially when he’s outside and there are smells aplenty in the vicinity that he’s eager to investigate. With some attention to his basic training we think Rikkos would do really well and pick up new things with ease. He just needs a little patience and consistency to do so.

Following routine blood tests, it was confirmed that Rikkos was positive for Leishmania, but he has had preliminary treatment, his condition is stable, and he is otherwise in brilliant health. Leish is a long term health condition caused by the bite of an infected sandfly. It is not transferrable to other dogs in the UK as our weather is too cold for the sandfly to survive. With a supportive vet, inexpensive medication and routine bloodwork, Leishmania can be managed well and dogs go on to live a happy to healthy life. We can provide more information upon request about Leish and Rikkos’ specific case.

Rikkos is housetrained and also brilliant on the lead. He loves his home comforts whether that’s a snuggle on the sofa or a nap on a comfortable bed. He’s a big fan of treats, and loves being fussed over by people, even those he’s not known for very long. He’s a quietly confident boy with an active, inquisitive and playful nature, and he would make a lovely addition to a family looking for an outdoorsy boy to join them. He can live with other dogs and children, but he’s unfortunately not suitable for a home with cats due to his keen desire to chase them!

Rikkos is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health aside from his stable Leishmania diagnosis. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
