About Fern

Unfortunately we are seeking a new home for Fern as she’s not getting along with one of the resident dogs in her family. Fern is a three year old Pointer/Staffie mixed breed, originally rescued from Cyprus, and she is currently based in Colchester, Essex. She is looking for a foster or forever home as soon as possible due to the tricky dynamics in the household.

Fern is a gorgeous girl who has made immense progress in the time she’s been in the UK. As a puppy, Fern was absolutely terrified of everyone and everything. It took a long time for her to gain trust in humans but now she’s a completely different dog. She is devoted, loyal and affectionate to those she knows and trusts, and she is wonderful with older children too.

Fern has been living in a home with two other dogs and initially things were really good between the trio, but unfortunately as time as passed the relationship has become more strained and her family feel she would be better suited to a home where she’s the only resident dog. She is very friendly with other dogs when on walks and playing off lead, and being around other pups does seem to have benefitted her confidence but ultimately her current household dynamic is not working.

There is a possibility that Fern could be adopted alongside another dog in a more experienced home, with a dog of the right nature. She gets on fine with one resident dog, but not the other, so we would be open to considering the possibility of a home with another dog is they’re of the right temperament to get along with Fern.

Fern would really benefit from some proper training, which she’s never had previously. She will pull from excitement and can be a bit over-zealous meeting other unfamiliar dogs when she’s on the lead, but as mentioned she is good off-lead. She knows to sit and wait, and she is fully housetrained, but she is very clever and has the potential to learn if given the opportunity.

Fern loves walks in secure areas and is an outdoorsy dog. She is an avid squirrel watcher and also loves to sunbathe out in the garden - she’d be out there all day if she could. She is looking for a home based semi-rurally with a secure garden, and with someone who has some previous rescue dog experience. She would not enjoy being left for long periods each day, and she’s looking for a home without young children (10+) and cats (as she’s not been tested with them).

Fern is currently based in Essex and is ready to find her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
