About Polly

Polly is a quiet and affectionate soul who has come a long way from where she was first found. Discovered at a garbage dump alongside her young puppy, Polly had clearly had a tough time and was struggling. Despite being exhausted and understandably wary of people, she quickly placed her trust in the volunteers who came to help her. She has been recovering and building confidence in their care ever since, and now she’s ready for find her new family.

Polly is a calm and sensitive dog. She can be a little shy around unfamiliar people at first, but once she feels safe, she forms strong, trusting bonds. She enjoys a fuss, steady walks and being in the company of those she knows. With the volunteers she trusts she has now become really affectionate and loves to engage with them. It’s been really nice to watch her confidence go and her keenness to accept affection steadily increase.

Polly shares her space at the shelter with a large group of other dogs and gets along well with them. She isn’t particularly playful but doesn’t mind being around other dogs and could live happily alongside a calm resident dog. Equally, she would also be comfortable as the only dog in a home where she can build a close relationship with her people. It will be necessary to take things at her pace though and be patient with her.

Polly would be best suited to a quiet, calm household, ideally located outside of a busy city environment. A countryside or semi rural home, with access to a secure garden and surrounded by lovely places to walk and explore would help her continue to gain confidence and adapt to a companion lifestyle. She could live with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to interact gently with a more reserved dog. Very young or boisterous children may overwhelm her.

She has not yet been tested with cats, but due to her gentle nature, careful introductions could be considered if needed.

Based on the progress she’s already made, we know that given the right environment, Polly is going to shine and become such a fantastic family friend. Offering her security, understanding and all the kindness she has missed out on so far will help her continue to blossom and we know she’s going to make someone very happy.

Please note all our Bosnian dogs arrive to kennels based in Ormskirk when they get to the UK. Adopters are required to arrange collection from there.
