About Tegan

Tegan is a a sweetheart who was found wandering through the fields not too far from the local municipal pound. A worker brought her in for rehoming, and she’s since been looked after by the volunteers there. Tegan is around three years old and thought to be a Shepherd mix. She is a beautiful girl, and despite the conditions of the pound she has done really well, but she is quite stressed in there and would make heaps more progress if we could get her out.

Tegan is around 27kg and measures 81cm to the top of her head. We think, based on her reactions to people, cars and walking on the lead, that she has lived in a home before, although we can’t guarantee this. When outside the shelter and on her walks with people she is a changed dog and seems so happy, but as soon as she returns to the kennel area she just slumps in the corner. She also gets very agitated when she sees other dogs going out for walks and will bark and spin continuously in her kennel. It’s so sad to witness, but commonplace for dogs in shelters with little stimulation during the day.

Since her arrival, Tegan has made friends with all of the volunteers who come each day to walk, clean and feed the dogs. She became a hit very quickly, as she’s super friendly and loves nothing more than to lean into you for a cuddle. She is happiest when she’s around people and she really loves going out for walks, getting the sniff about in the grass and explore the nature trails. She would love a more active home with a family who are often enjoying long walks. She is also a very typical Shepherd in that she’s so loyal and human oriented, so she would do well in a home where she gets a lot of focus.

Tegan has been friendly with other dogs although seems to generally be more interested in people. She has played really nicely with different dogs of various sizes, both males and females, but would be too big for a home with a small, placid little dog that wasn’t into lots of play. A dog of a similar temperament would be a good match for her, but she’s also confident enough to be homed as the only resident dog.

Tegan has limited experience with children and based on her size we’re looking for a home with kids aged 10+, so as not to overwhelm either party. She is an active dog and may jump up so we wouldn’t recommend her for a home with young, smaller children. Tegan has also been exposed to cats in the yard and shown interest in them, although no aggression. However, there is likely a chase instinct there so we would recommend a home without cats.

Tegan’s ideal home would be an active family based in a more semi-rural area with lots of green spaces nearby to explore. She would love some basic training to help her bond with her new family, and would prefer a family who are home frequently so she doesn’t spend long periods of time on her own. She is also looking for a home with direct access to a secure garden.

Tegan is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog: their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
