About Spike

Spike and Eren were found in an outhouse belonging to a public swimming pool, but no one had any idea how the puppies had turned up there. A likely story is that someone dumped them in an area where they knew they would be found, and someone else would take responsibility for them. Well look how that worked!

Eren and Spike flew to the UK in April to their respective homes, the only difference being that Eren’s was a forever home, and Spike’s was only a foster. He is still on the lookout for a family to call his own. Since arriving in the UK Spike’s confidence has been improving, but we think he would do a lot better outside of the city. At present he is near Shoreditch in London, and he would be much more relaxed in a semi-rural setting. However, bringing him to London was better than him growing up in the shelter.

Spike is a typical Shepherd and he is looking for a home that is prepared to give him the time, training and energy to help him grow into a balanced, socialised and confident young dog. He is such a sweetheart with those he knows and trusts, but is still apprehensive around strangers and needs time to forge a friendship. He is quicker to trust new dogs than he is new people, but once you’re friends, Spike is nothing but love.

Spike is a very clever dog and he has the capacity to pick up training really quickly given some 1-2-1 focus. Typical of his breed type, he’s keen to please and benefits from knowing boundaries and routine. He observes the behaviour of other dogs in unfamiliar situations and we think having a canine companion could be hugely beneficial for Spike in his forever home. He is a rough and tumble kind of boy and really loves to play, so he would be best suited to a very balanced, sociable and tolerant resident dog that could provide guidance as a role model, as well as general canine companionship.

Spike is a curious dog and you can see that he definitely wants to be a little braver, he just needs the time and patience to come out of his shell a bit more. Because Spike is a big dog it’s easy to forget that he is in fact still just a baby, and still learning to navigate this new world he’s found himself in. He had a rough beginning, then had to adapt to the shelter, and is now slotting into the UK - it’s been a lot for him especially as he’s naturally a bit reserved, but we can see so much potential shining through.

Spike is looking for an active home based in a semi-rural or rural environment. He needs a home with a garden, a patient adopter who is committed to continuing Spike’s training and socialisation, and although Shepherd experience isn’t a dealbreaker it would be helpful. Away from London we think Spike’s confidence will naturally improve as there will be less hustle and bustle to overwhelm him.

Spike has had limited interactions with children and based on the fact that he can find loud noises and sudden movements a bit unnerving we think he would be far more relaxed in a home without young kids. He’s never shown any adverse behaviour towards children before but we wouldn’t want him to feel unsettled in a new home, and feel a predominantly adult home, or with children aged 10+, would be preferable for him.

Spike is currently based in London, but we are looking to rehome him in a more rural setting. He has a clean bill of health and he is ready to meet his new forever family so please get in touch if you’d like to meet him!

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
