Juno’s story

Juno arrived at her new forever home on 16th April 2021 after a long journey from Cyprus. When we saw her coming out of the cage in the transporter van we immediately fell in love with her appealing eyes and loving inquisitive nature.

We had wanted to adopt a dog for some time and as our circumstances now allowed us, we started our search. Having heard about Underdog International through a colleague we were soon in contact with Eve who showed us pictures and videos of Juno, who she had assessed, and thought would be a good match for us. Having had Boxers in the past and growing up with a Staffie, Juno being a Staffie/Boxer cross we felt it would be a perfect match.

Juno settled into Scottish life very well although adapting to a cooler climate took longer. She immediately liked her home comforts and snuggling under a blanket at night, as well as sitting at the window during the day in the lounge watching everything happening outside. Juno is a loving dog despite being in the pound in Cyprus for several months of her puppy life.

Unfortunately, soon after Juno was adopted, her Daddy dislocated his ankle in a cycling accident and Mummy had to be in hospital for two weeks following surgery. We were at a crossroads for caring for Juno, however she was brilliant and seemed to sense we needed space to recover especially when I came out of hospital. We got Sean the dog walker to help and since then Sean has become a household name and Juno loves going out with the ‘Van Gang’ twice a week with her pals!

Juno loves her garden and sunbathing on the decking. Recently she met our new wee granddaughter and has embraced her lovingly into the family. We are so glad to see her loving, caring and protective nature shining through. She’s also a perfect companion and has never destroyed or chewed anything around the house apart from her toys which she annihilates with gusto and enthusiasm. We are still on the hunt for indestructible toys although this is part of the fun for Juno! We think she should become a tester for what is marketed as ‘indestructible’ toys. She has become the centre of our life and home, we can't imagine life before Juno she has so enhanced our life every day.

Juno now goes to obedience classes each week and pack walks and has really came on leaps and bounds with her socialisation skills. She is intelligent and always investigating new things. Although she is now about two years old she acts like a three month old puppy when playing with other dogs and is currently meeting with a small group of dogs from the training classes who are dogs displaying same behaviours. Trainer Michael is teaching us how to deal with overactive excitement when meeting dogs outside, and this is immensely helpful.

It is hard work sometimes with Juno but rewarding to see such a beautiful loving dog progress. She loves her walks, especially in the morning when she sniffs absolutely everything in her path. She’s inquisitive about everything, and nothing seems to phase her. She loves meeting our son or other family members off the train and will sit on bench on platform waiting for them!

We are still working on Juno’s recall as she wants to play with every dog she meets, chase every squirrel (and cat, and deer) but this is getting better. It’s important to assess and take risks and be confident as your dog really picks up strongly on your body language, tone of voice and how you are feeling.

If you are thinking about getting dog we would thoroughly recommend that you contact Eve at Underdog International. If you have any questions she is very helpful and brilliant at matching you with the right dog for you. Juno had not been advertised when we decided to look at the site, however Eve contacted us with pictures and video of Juno as she felt we had the experience necessary and time to give Juno the life she deserved. We are so glad she did. We are so grateful to Eve who took the time to make sure Juno would be matched with the correct family.
