My name is: Mike
I came from: Greece
Now I live in: Surrey
My favourite things are: Lovely long walks in the sunshine, playing with my sister Lucy (although I have to be careful as she’s an old lady now), finding treats hidden for me, and cuddling up on the sofa with anyone I can find after a nice long walk

Mike’s story

We’d been thinking of bringing another dog in to the family for some time as our dog, Lucy, is starting to lead into her later years and we felt an addition would brighten things up for her and provide her with a long awaited companion.

We came across Underdog International on Instagram and got in touch with Eve about a suitable match for us. We initially showed interest in another dog but Eve was really honest and explained she didn’t feel he was the best match for us, we then knew we definitely wanted to adopt via Underdog as the dog’s interests were clearly their sole priority. We let her know we were interested in this family of puppies from Greece and then waited to hear further details. They were soon loaded onto the Underdog website and that’s when we first saw Mike.

Eve agreed he could be a great match for us taking into consideration Lucy’s age and temperament, so we arranged to meet up with him and his fosterer in Fulham one Sunday afternoon to check the dogs got on. The initial meeting couldn’t have gone better, and they hit it off straight away.

We then arranged the home check which we found much more thorough than any we’ve ever had when adopting through other charities, so this gave us further reassurance Underdog International were behind us every step of the way.

Mike was just 5 months old then and has since blossomed into a confident handsome teenager. He is the loveliest dog, he was well socialised from the outset and has the perfect manners around other dogs, he is just so friendly with everybody.  He is cuddly and enjoys nothing more than a snuggle up on the sofa after a nice long walk. Every evening before they settle down to nap, they have their evening ritual of play, he is so respectful of Lucy and her age and really gentle with her. He actually watches the TV and you can see his expressions change as he watches it.  He makes us laugh all the time with his funny ways, he has no idea how long his legs are and hops around over Lucy.

He loves his toys, although as with any puppy these don’t last that long! We have recently been in touch with a dog trainer who has been great with some hints and tips for him so we are now working on his ‘stop’, ‘wait’, ‘drop’ and ’touch’ as we’d really like him to be a therapy dog too. He learns really quickly and is super intelligent.

He is famous at our local vets as the receptionists thought it was hilarious when he came out to come home after his neutering and decided to jump up on the receptionists lap to give her a cuddle before he left, and he has even softened our ‘old school’ vet who is rarely soppy with the dogs.

All in all we couldn’t have hoped for a smoother process via Underdog International and Mike is the best addition to our family.  He is so placid and loving we now have a new catch phrase in that everyone needs to ‘be more Mike’…
