Roo’s story

This is something that we never thought we would do, but fate lead us down this path. We have two dogs already, Beau a 10 year collie that we adopted 6 years ago & Danby a 5 year old Hungarian Vizsla. We were starting to think about getting puppy to join the pack as we know that Beau in the next couple of years will be limited joining us on some of our big Scottish adventures.

By chance we saw a post on social media from Underdog International and instantly we knew the pup that we wanted to join our pack. We emailed Underdog and as you say, the rest is history!

We completed the adoption form to reserve ‘Roo’ & made a small donation to Underdog and then awaited the home check and chat. Even as experienced dog owners, we were slightly nervous about this but Lyndsey made us feel very relaxed and this was such a positive part of the process. This is also made us feel very confident that Underdog really do care about where their dogs will go to their forever home. Once we completed the home check and were given the ‘green light’ we arrange the logistics with Eve from Underdog and awaited our new arrival.

Roo arrived with us in October 2019 and instantly claimed her place on the sofa with her new sisters. It was so apparent that Roo had gained so many socialisation skills whilst she was under the loving care of Underdog, which was so important when bringing her into our life with the other dogs.

Since October, Roo has enjoyed puppy class and learnt so many vital skills to allow her to really enjoy her life in Scotland. Roo joins her sisters on all but the major hikes, but come June (when she turns one!), she will start to explore Scotland further.

We can honestly say that adopting a dog from Underdog was such a straight forward process & the aftercare is just as good. We have also been lucky enough to connect with other amazing people who have adopted puppies from the same litter as Roo, which is great, as it allows us to chat about traits, personality etc. of the dogs.

So a little bit more about Roo, I won’t lie and say from day one she has been perfect, but she has been a puppy and no different to any other puppy. Boundless energy but always wanting to please. So given the time and a little effort, she really has become part of the family in such a short time period. We have so many adventures still to come with Roo as part of the pack.

So for anyone thinking about adopting, we did not set out our to adopt a dog from overseas, but the experience with Underdog has been fantastic and we now have a new member of the family and we will be ever thankful to Underdog International.
