About Alfie

Alfie is a two year old hound mix who was found as a stray and brought to the shelter earlier this year. Since arriving, he has integrated into shelter life with ease and now shares his compound happily with six other dogs, both males and females. His friendly, relaxed nature has made him a firm favourite with volunteers and other dogs, and he’s a lovely boy to spend time with.

Alfie is a bright and affectionate dog with a sweet, expressive face. Sometimes he even looks like he’s smiling. He has a gorgeous speckled, golden-toned coat which we think might be indicative of him possibly being a mix of Lemon Beagle or Pointer, possibly with a touch of Labrador, and his gentle, people oriented nature backs it up. He also has amazing velvet ears, and a very long tail! He loves being close to anyone and everyone and will often perch on top of the kennel for a better view and a better chance at some attention. He is very loving and enjoys leaning in close for a cuddle.

He has already learned to sit patiently for a treat and is showing lots of signs of being highly trainable. He’s motivated, engaged and wants to please, which will make ongoing training straightforward and enjoyable. His lead manners are coming along nicely, and he loves going out for walks with the shelter volunteers. He’s also quite the poser in front of the camera.

Alfie is sociable with other dogs and enjoys playing and interacting with them, but he would also be very happy as the only dog in the home, provided he has regular interaction and plenty of company from his new family. He thrives on attention and would suit someone who’s home during the day or keen to include a dog in their daily routine. While he does sometimes jump up for attention, this is common in the shelter environment and is expected to settle with structure and consistency.

Alfie would suit a home with access to a garden, or nearby green spaces at least, and regular opportunities for exercise. He would enjoy a lifestyle with a good balance of walks, play, and downtime at home. He would be an ideal match for someone who enjoys being out and about, but equally values the quiet companionship of a dog content to snooze nearby while you work or go about your day. He’s more than happy to be out walking and exploring, but has a relaxed side to him that we think would be quite happy at home snuggled on the sofa.

Alfie has adapted well to shelter life but is clearly ready for more. With his friendly nature, eagerness to learn, and strong desire to bond with people, we think he will settle beautifully into a home environment and become a loyal, affectionate companion.
