About Donatello

Donatello was brought into the shelter by the dog warden after he was found roaming the streets of Nicosia in Cyprus. He’s been with us now for around six months and is a beautiful dog with a lovely temperament. We were surprised that no one came looking for him when he was first brought in, as he definitely gives us the impression that he’s been living in a home.

Donatello is estimated to be around two years of age and is likely a mix of Pointer and Labrador. He is a very soft, gentle and loving boy, and he has the most human smile we have ever seen. He shares his kennel at the moment with two other high energy dogs who are boisterous and bossy, and Donatello just minds his own business. He’s a calm soul and he doesn’t ask for much. We think he has great potential as a companion dog and would be a really loyal family friend.

Donatello is quietly confident and happy to approach new people. He won’t fight for attention or focus with the other dogs and will patiently wait to be offered a fuss. He loves a chin scratch and leans right into your hand with his eyes tight shut. He’s also not a needy dog and is happy to be independent at times, taking himself off into his kennel when he wants some time out or to get out of the sun. He has an easygoing temperament but would definitely enjoy more interaction and engagement than he can possibly get in a shelter setting.

Donatello has shared a kennel with a selection of different dogs since he arrived in the shelter and he’s never caused any issues. He’s often paired with bouncier, chaotic dogs in the hope his calm energy might rub off on them, but that’s still a work in progress - I suppose we can’t ask for miracles! The good thing though is that the higher energy of other dogs doesn’t fizz him up or overwhelm him. He’s very balanced, and a good mixer in groups. In a home setting we think he would be fine with or without another dog.

Donatello hasn’t been tested with cats but his temperament suggests he might be okay with a dog-savvy cat that is used to living with dogs. He hasn’t had experience around young children, but again, we would feel comfortable with him living with kids aged 6+. Ideally, he would love in a home outside of the city with plenty of nearby walks to enjoy, his own little garden, and a fairly calm household atmosphere. We think he will really thrive in a home setting with routine, security and stability, and we can’t wait to see him finally get the forever home he deserves.

Donatello is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
