About Jessie

Jessie is a gorgeous six year old German Shepherd who sadly came into the shelter when her elderly owner went into a hospice for end of life care. No one was able to take Jessie on for him, and so she was surrendered to the shelter with the assurance that whatever happened to him, she would be looked after and found a wonderful forever home for the rest of her life. Jessie arrives as a foster in the UK on the 3rd March.

Jessie is a beautiful example of her breed. She is a balanced dog with a sociable and sweet nature, and despite the considerable changes that have taken place recently she has adapted remarkably well. Although it was an initial shock to the system, Jessie quickly found her feet in the shelter, became accustomed to the routine each day and made friends with all the volunteers. She is a placid girl and doesn’t really require much to be happy.

Jessie is looking for a laid-back, calm home environment, based outside of the city where she can enjoy leisurely walks and a quiet surrounding area. She would happily spend time each day snuggled up on the sofa or in her bed, and is used to being in the company of older people who enjoy a slower pace of life. She walks very nicely on the lead and looks forward to her time spent outside each day.

Jessie would benefit from a home with a garden where she can lie on the grass and enjoy the sunshine and potter about as she pleases. We think she would be happiest in a home where she’s the only dog, but generally speaking at the shelter she gets on better with male dogs to females. She’s not particularly interested in other dogs, and she doesn’t like small dogs jumping up at her and getting in her face. She doesn’t have any interest in playing and is definitely more people oriented. As long as she has the love of humans that’s all she’s bothered about.

Jessie hasn’t spent very much time with children to our knowledge, so we would be looking for a home with old kids only (12+), or no children. She wouldn’t be comfortable in a busy household with a lot going on around her, or lots of unpredictable noises or movement (as with toddlers and young kids) so we would like to find her a chilled out home atmosphere. We’re also not confident that she would co-exist well around cats as she seems a bit too interested in them near the shelter, so a feline free home too please!

Jessie would be the ideal addition to an older family looking to adopt a dog, and keen to offer a mature adult dog a second chance. She is an affectionate and very loyal girl with a big heart, and we would love for her to have the security of a forever home once again.

Jessie is currently based in North London and has a clean bill of health (she has been x-rayed for hip dysplasia and got the all clear!). She is ready to meet her new forever family.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
