Underdog of the Year

Does your Underdog deserve the title this year?

Underdog of the Year celebrates some of our most determined, resilient and forgiving Underdogs. It’s the hardest vote of the year, because of course, every dog is a deserving winner, but it’s also a lovely way to celebrate some of our dogs, their adopters, and their achievements together. Whether it’s overcoming a heartbreaking start in life, passing their therapy dog training, working hard on their reactivity, or dealing with a medical challenge, the success of our Underdogs deserves to be celebrated!

Over the stretch between Christmas and New Year, we introduce you to two dogs per day and share their stories via our social media. All of their stories are compelling, but it’s up to you to make the decision as to which one pulls on your heartstrings and receives your vote. The winner of each round will then reach the final, where you have the chance to crown your Underdog of the Year!

Thomas being celebrated for Underdog of the Year just reminded us of how much the Underdog team loves and adores every one of these dogs and makes the adopters feel like part of the Underdog family. Each one of the dogs nominated has gone through such a tough start, so it’s about remembering their stories and celebrating how far they’ve come. Thomas, of course, celebrated second place with a special meal and a good sleep on the sofa

Questions?

  • Quite simply, any Underdog! This means any dog that has been adopted through Underdog International. It doesn’t matter which country they came from or if they were a UK rehoming case, if you signed an Underdog adoption contract, you’re part of the pack and can nominate your Underdog.

  • Yes! Every year we send the winner a special, personalised tag for their collar (or as a keepsake) celebrating their title, and a very cute pet portrait by one of our fabulous artist friends.

  • Of course! If your dog has chased too many squirrels this year, but someone else’s pup sets a beautiful example, you’re welcome to nominate them instead. Bear in mind they have to have been adopted from Underdog International though :)

  • You can vote on the social media posts once per day. Votes from the online polls and comments will then be combined for each round until we have our finalists, and then there will be one more vote for the overall winner.

  • Of course. If you feel that your dog has continued to surpass expectations, overcome challenges and continued to make a huge impact, you absolutely can nominate them again. We can’t guarantee they will make the shortlist, but we will consider every nomination.
