About Ivan
Unfortunately Ivan is looking for a new home. He arrived in the UK in June 2025 at the age of five months old, and has been in a loving, supportive home since then. Sadly, due to reduced time to work on his training since a baby arrived, and his surrounding environment not being the best for his needs, he is now looking for a new family.
Ivan is looking for a semi-rural home where he has more space, a nice garden to run about in, and a family who understands hounds. He is currently living in London and is struggling with the suburban surroundings. There are a lot of factors that he finds overwhelming and this is causing pent up frustration and anxiety. He would be much happier outside of the city where he can enjoy long walks in green spaces.
As his family have been preparing for their new baby, they haven’t had enough time to give Ivan the training and focus that he has really needed. Now the baby has arrived they have even less time, and they recognise that he needs more than they’re able to provide. Ivan needs some time to reset, adjust to a new environment, and decompress. He is extremely food motivated, which really helps with training, and he has learnt a few tricks too. He is also housetrained and crate trained, but does unfortunately struggle with the car which needs some continued desensitisation training.
In true hound fashion, Ivan is incredibly affectionate with his family, loves a snuggle on the sofa, and is happiest when chasing after a ball. He’s an energetic boy and needs an active home, but he also responds well to mental stimulation and enrichment with his food, such as stuffed kongs and scatter feeding.
Ivan’s main struggles relate to reactivity and anxiety. Before leaving the shelter and in his initial UK foster home, Ivan was brilliant with other dogs and socialised with males and females of a variety of ages. Unfortunately this hasn’t been the case since being adopted, and he is now very selective with other dogs. It is possible that in a calmer environment this may improve, and he has had a good relationship with mature female dogs. Although Ivan currently lives with a newborn and has been very adaptable to the new arrival, we’re looking for a home with older children simply to keep his environment a bit more predictable and relaxed.
Ivan is looking for a family that can give him the time, patience and training to settle in at his own pace. We feel a change of environment will really be integral in supporting his onward progress, and we won’t be considering urban homes given his struggles in London. We know how loving, sweet natured and friendly Ivan can be and we’re looking for a home where he can enjoy lots of adventures, a calm home atmosphere, and has the attention and understanding of a more experienced adopter.
