About Ivan
Unfortunately Ivan is looking for a new home. He arrived in the UK in June 2025 at the age of five months old, but very sadly, the arrival of a baby lead to him being relinquished back into our care less than a year later. He was rehomed, but now, Ivan has found himself now looking for his third home, and this time this has to be the forever home he has been promised. This poor boy arrived as such a fun loving, sociable and friendly young dog, and it breaks our hearts that he’s not been given the time and commitment he deserves.
Ivan is currently in kennels in Derbyshire, which is where he’s felt the most secure for a while. Now integrated into the kennels, he has made some lovely progress and is really beginning to show his personality. He is an affectionate, sociable boy who is delighted to see people and will happily run over for a fuss before heading off to investigate his surroundings. He is very friendly with new people and readily approaches them for attention, making him a wonderfully people orientated dog.
Ivan loves his walks and enjoys having his nose to the ground, taking in all the interesting scents around him. He is generally easy on the lead, with only a little pulling when he becomes particularly excited. He has also shown that he can walk calmly past other dogs, including several who were barking, without reacting. When he does encounter a dog who is less welcoming, Ivan has shown that he can read their signals and back away appropriately. He can occasionally become overwhelmed by another dog's energy and has had an isolated vocal reaction to a small dog, so he will benefit from an adopter who can continue to build his confidence and give him space when needed.
Ivan has a lovely way of seeking reassurance when something catches him off guard. If he is unsure about something, such as passing traffic, he will come in close to his person's legs for reassurance before carrying on. He is otherwise remarkably unbothered by his surroundings and was completely unfazed by a large, noisy tractor working nearby. He enjoys being able to explore but is also happy to stop and take in the world around him, which will be valuable as his confidence continues to develop. He showed no concern around the horses at the kennels and was happy to investigate his surroundings at his own pace.
Ivan has not been given adequate attention or training during his time in the UK, and due to all of the change he has experienced, we noticed that when he came back into our care that his behaviour had deteriorated as he found situations more overwhelming to deal with. Environment is important to Ivan’s ability to feel settled and happy, so we’re looking for a calm, semi-rural home where he has more space, a nice garden to run about in, and a family who understands hounds. The biggest challenge for Ivan at the moment however is convincing him that it is time to go back to his kennel! He would much rather continue his walk and spend time with people, which says a great deal about how much he enjoys human company.
Ivan needs some time to reset, adjust to a new environment, and decompress. He is extremely food motivated, which really helps with training, and he has learnt a few tricks too. He is also housetrained and crate trained, but does unfortunately struggle with the car which needs some continued desensitisation training.
In true hound fashion, Ivan is incredibly affectionate with his family, loves a snuggle on the sofa, and is happiest when chasing after a ball. He’s an energetic boy and needs an active home, but he also responds well to mental stimulation and enrichment with his food, such as stuffed kongs and scatter feeding.
Ivan is a lovely, affectionate boy who is making encouraging progress. With an adopter who can continue to build on this progress and give him the reassurance and guidance he needs, we know just how wonderful this lovely boy could be. Third time lucky!
