About Helena

Helena arrived in the shelter well over a year ago and has unfortunately been overlooked for some time. She is a gorgeous spaniel/retriever type mix with a beautiful, shiny, black coat, and a heart of gold. It’s time she found her forever family!

Helena is thought to be around two years old and she currently shares her kennel with a bouncy male dog. She’s learned to tolerate his lack of spatial awareness (and manners!) and has shown that she’s a very patient dog. She seems to get along well with most other dogs but above all Helena is most interested in being around humans. She is a very friendly girl and has missed out on so much over the past year, so any opportunity she gets to be with people she absolutely relishes it. She is super friendly towards everyone she meets and loves being cuddled.

Helena is currently a bit overweight, which is due to lack of exercise following the dogs being neutered. With a steady routine and plenty of nice walks we’re confident Helena will get back to her trim shape, but a little weight gain happens to the best of us. Helena’s routine at the moment lacks the exercise and enrichment she would get in a forever home, because sadly the shelter just doesn’t have the time or resources to give each of the 120+ dogs in their care that kind of focus and attention.

Helena is good on the lead and really enjoys being outdoors. She walks really nicely, pulling a little here and there out of excitement but nothing that’s difficult to control. She loves having a sniff about in the grass and exploring her surroundings, and would definitely be best suited to a home outside of a busy city where she can enjoy a bit more of the countryside.

Helena would be a great addition to a family with a moderately active lifestyle, access to a garden, and someone who’s home frequently. She wouldn’t enjoy being left for long periods of time considering her past year has been spent in a kennel with limited human interaction. She really wants to be a part of the family and be involved in their day-to-day activities and adventures. Although she’s not had much experience around young children we feel Helena’s temperament would be suitable for kids aged 7+, and she could live with or without other dogs. As long as she gets cuddles in abundance, she’ll be happy!

Helena is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
