About Max

Max was one of thirteen siblings who were born in a garage and then shortly taken into the safety of a shelter. One by one, they slowly started to find their homes across Europe, but it’s always harder for the black dogs, and the remaining members of the litter have now spent over three years in the shelter. Thankfully, the set up is small which has meant they’ve always had 1-2-1 attention and bonded well with other dogs, children and adults, but it’s still not a forever home. This year, we are hoping the last few of the family can finally find their new beginning.

Max is such a sweetheart and has always been a sociable, friendly and playful dog. He has a positive, happy nature and is always keen to greet visitors. He has see lots of other dogs come and go in the time he’s been in the shelter and has always been eager to get to know them and instigate play. He’s never known a life without being in the company of other dogs, and having a resident pup as a companion in his new home may benefit his integration, although given adequate time to settle we don’t feel it’s absolutely compulsory as Max is quietly confident and a quick learner.

Max would be best suited to a more rural setting, away from a busy city and lots of overwhelming noises. He is looking for a calm home atmosphere, with direct access to a secure garden and an easygoing pace of life. He enjoys spending time outside and would love a little space to potter about outside and sunbathe on the grass. Max has always had easy outdoor access and maintaining this really helps our Bosnian dogs adapt to a companion lifestyle.

Max loves a fuss and is very affectionate with those he knows well. He is also gentle and well mannered around children (8+), but has no experience around cats. He is also a sucker for a belly rub and will never turn down a treat! Despite never having more than the basics, Max is very happy and would settle into a relaxed lifestyle really well. Adopting Max will be such a rewarding experience but as the shelter is all he’s ever known it’s important his family can provide him with time, patience and understanding. He is a very good natured dog and has loads of potential as a companion, but his integration can’t be rushed. It’s promising to know that of Max’s siblings that have already been adopted they have adjusted to a ‘normal’ life steadily and are very happy now.

After more than three years in the shelter we really hope that this year is Max’s year. We would love to see him find the attentive, loving and patient family he deserves who will finally be able to show him what it’s like to be a companion dog and not just a shelter dog.

Max is currently based in Bosnia and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
