About Oakley

Oakley is the type of dog that makes our hearts sink when they come into the shelter. He’s a larger sized Shepherd mix and these pups, despite their often lovely temperaments, are always overlooked for a while in favour of smaller dogs. They more often than not spend a long time in cages in the shelter waiting for their big break and it’s really hard to see them so desperate to get out experience life outside the confines of their kennel.

Oakley is around 18 months old and arrived as a quivering wreck after he’d been rescued from the streets. He squashed himself right into the corner of his crate and trembled whenever anyone came near him. He was so anxious that someone was going to hurt him and it took days for him to decompress. A couple of weeks later and Oakley is now a changed dog. The scared boy that arrived is now a happy, bouncy and trusting pup!

Oakley is a clever and sensitive soul. He has a charming personality with some rally goofy moments, but he’s super sociable and once he’s made a connection with someone he is so, so friendly ad trusting. Oakley loves a cuddle and leans right into for maximum snuggles. Although he’s initially very excitable and bouncy, he responds well to tone and recognises when you’re trying to give him direction. He is very keen to please and eager to learn. As Shepherds are a very intelligent breed Oakley would definitely benefit from some basic training once adopted. We don’t know if he has ever had the opportunity to experience a conventional home setting, so it will really help with his integration and to form a strong relationship with his new family.

Oakley’s ideal home would be based semi-rurally. He would be absolutely in his element if he was to find a home near the beach or near the forests - just close to nature where he can spend a lot of time exploring and running. He’s an energetic boy and loves being active. Sadly due to lack of time and resources, the shelter can’t give him the physical or mental stimulation he truly needs to be satisfied, so he will be a bit of a coiled spring when he’s first rehomed and he’ll take time to adjust to a routine. Patience is key though, and given the chance to settle, we think Oakley is going to make an amazing companion.

Oakley is friendly with other dogs but can be rehomed as the only dog in the household. He doesn’t have any formal lead training and this will need to be worked on in his new home. He is not the type of dog we feel could be rehomed with cats due to his breed and energy levels, but he can be rehomed with children aged 8+. He is looking for a home with a garden, surrounded by green spaces, and with a family who are prepared to put time and energy into his training and socialisation to help him reach his full potential.

Oakley is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog: their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
