About Yogi

Yogi’s story started when he found as an unwanted puppy and was dumped at a shelter in Cyprus. He was adopted a few months later but came back into our care recently after he started to struggle with the relationship with a new resident male dog. His family felt they couldn’t give him the type of home he needed, and now we’re looking to start Yogi’s new chapter. He has quite honestly transformed from the insecure dog he was when he first went into foster.

Yogi has a wonderful, people-focused personality that truly shines once he feels secure. He's incredibly eager to please and forms strong bonds with his humans, showing genuine enthusiasm for learning and following directions, especially when treats are involved! His transformation from an anxious rescue to a calm, trustworthy companion shows how important finding the right home truly is. Despite all the changes he’s endured, Yogi has proven to be a resilient boy and we’re so proud of how he’s handled his integration into a foster home.

Yogi can now be left alone at home without any issues (which wasn’t always the case!) but he would prefer a home where he’s not left for hours alone. His exercise needs are moderate and he’s just as happy to nap beside you as he is to head out on a countryside ramble or dog park playdate - he has plenty of stamina for an adventure! He loves a hike in the hills as much as a trip to the beach, or a wade through the river, and he’d make an excellent exploring partner.

Yogi enjoys his walks and is currently walking well on a head harness, though he can be strong if he’s particularly excited or stimulated. He hasn’t yet mastered not jumping up when he meets new people, and as he’s a large dog this can be a bit overwhelming for some people. In general, he’s well-mannered out and about and very responsive to direction.

This is the second home environment where Yogi has had a female resident dog bestie, and he truly loves her. Outside of the home he is sociable with other dogs and has learned to read body language well. He’s playful, friendly, and not easily flustered, even when faced with difficult behaviour from other dogs. We feel he could live alongside other resident dogs as long as their personalities gel nicely together, as he enjoys having a friend and would likely thrive in a home with another balanced, friendly dog to interact with.

Yogi is great around people and is friendly when meeting new faces. He’s very fond of children and has been gentle and interested around them, but he would be better suited to a home with older kids while he continues to work on managing his excitement in a gentler way. His jumping up would be too much around younger kids.

At home, Yogi is crate trained, housetrained, and loves his toys. He has no possessiveness around food or belongings and regularly brings his toys to the other dog in the house as a clear invitation to play. He’s affectionate and cuddly with people he knows, and loves to just hang out and snuggle. He thrives on praise, routine and consistency, and really benefits from predictability and clear instruction. He’s also a very clever dog and enjoys learning. Being food motivated helps! He loves a treat or kind word, and responds very well to positive reinforcement.

Yogi would do best in a home where he’s not left for long periods and where he has plenty of opportunities to explore, socialise and stay mentally stimulated. A secure garden would be ideal, and a calm, confident adopter who can continue the great work already done would help Yogi continue to flourish. He’s made extraordinary progress already and has so much love and loyalty to give.
