Bruce’s story

In November 2019, I was browsing Instagram and came across the Underdog International’s post searching for a forever home for a Cypriot hound, Bruce. As I browsed the pictures and read a bit more about him, I almost instantly decided that he was my ideal first dog! I had recently received a diagnosis of a serious chronic illness and as Bruce is epileptic, I felt as we had found each other for a reason.

After sending a message to the Underdog International’s Instagram expressing my interest, I was soon directed to the adoption process. After Bruce was reserved to me, I had a chat with Barbara who had been fostering Bruce in England to learn more about him and his condition. Kate from the volunteer team conducted the home check and talked to me in depth about having a dog with epilepsy. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and I felt supported every step of the way.

When Bruce first arrived with Barbara in August 2019, he was having very intense seizures almost weekly. Barbara managed to get him stable on his medication and since I have had Bruce, he has thankfully only had a handful of seizures!

Once Bruce was with us, he settled in quickly and easily. He still hasn’t quite adapted to the Scottish weather and seeks a wee sunspot on the odd day the sun is shining. There have been a few run ins with Bruce and his food stealing antics but as an ex-stray hound dog it is hard to be angry with him! He has the loveliest nature and really is the funniest, sweetest and stubborn dog I have ever met. Bruce has helped me in more ways than he will ever know, and I would not change him for the world.
