Maggie’s story

Maggie joined our family in January 2020. A bundle of black fluff with two long spotty socks, she plodded around our flat cautiously after her long journey to us before curling up in a ball on my husband’s lap. They’ve been firm friends ever since!

We spotted Mags on Eve’s Instagram and despite the fact we were in the midst of planning a wedding and renovating our home we just had a gut feeling that the little puppy in that picture was the one. A few weeks later she travelled to the U.K. with her sisters Margot and Penny.

Mags is a nervous little lady. She’s very noise sensitive and lockdown hasn’t been hugely helpful in building her confidence around new people. But she adores playing with other dogs and is so playful and silly with us at home. So it’s been a balancing act of helping her find her feet when we are out and about. We are working hard and helping her to gradually build more confidence when we are out and about.

The week after we got Maggie I found out I was pregnant with my first baby. My husband was away that day and I sat at home with this new little ball of fluff feeling slightly overwhelmed that in a matter of a few months we had gone from just the two of us, to four of us. But getting Maggie is a decision we have never regretted.

A rescue dog, like any dog, is a huge responsibility and demands time, patience, money and endless amounts of love. But our family wouldn’t be complete without her. She’s been so accepting of our latest arrival - licking his toes as he erupts into fits of giggles, hoovering up leftovers as they get flung from the highchair and being the perfect partner for long pram walks. And thankfully they’re finally both beginning to understand the word “stop”.

The work that Eve and the Underdog Team do isn’t just finding homes for dogs, it’s forming families and reminding us all that a little kindness goes a long way.
