About Bracken
Bracken has one month left before his foster family are unavailable to care for him. He has been in a foster home since December and is so ready to find his forever home.
Bracken is currently in foster care in Dundee, Scotland, and is now ready to start looking for the right permanent home. He is a young, energetic and very sweet natured dog who has been through such a lot in his short life, but remains affectionate, people focused and super enthusiastic about everything!
Bracken is the most determined and adaptable young dog. He survived being hit by a car when he was on the streets of Cyprus, and despite his injuries he has bounced back as though nothing ever happened. He absolutely loves being outdoors, exploring, but also loves his home comforts, snuggling on the bed or sunbathing in any strip of sunshine he can find.
Typical of his breed, Bracken is a super friendly and loving boy who adores people. He has no real sense of personal space (yep, that’s Pointers!) and loves any and every opportunity to be close. He currently lives in his foster home with a child aged ten and is friendly and playful. He can sometimes bit a bit over-excitable and bouncy, so younger children with less experience of dogs might find this a bit much, but he means no harm at all and just wants to shower everyone he meets with love.
Bracken has very puppy like traits and this is often a result of being in the shelter for a long period of time. He’s still adapting to a conventional home, and he craves company and the feeling of being included, so a home with someone around a lot would be perfect. He’s never had the luxury of his own home before, and he has taken the new routine in his stride. He enjoys cuddles, food, treats and toys, especially those that provide mental stimulation as he’s clever and enjoys using his brain. He already knows how to sit, his recall is improving each day, and he responds well to training.
On the lead, Bracken is great. He walks politely, does not pull and enjoys sniffing and taking in his surroundings. He is calm when passing other dogs and has shown no reactivity on walks. He has also passed cats a couple of times without reacting. He also travels very well in the car, so he’s always down for a road trip to have an adventure somewhere new, and happy to have a pit stop at the end in a pub or cafe.
Bracken has lived in a shelter with many other dogs for an extended period of time and gets along with them well. Despite one of the resident dogs in his foster home being a bit disgruntled at Bracken’s arrival, they have now formed a great friendship and live together without any issues. A playful but patient dog would be a great influence on him, but he could also be the only dog in the household. However, as he has separation anxiety he wouldn’t enjoy being left alone for long periods of time.
Bracken would suit a home that understands young, energetic dogs, and can provide ongoing training, frequent company, and lots of love. He could cope in the city or a suburban or residential area, as long as his exercise needs are met and his recovery continues to be supported sensibly.
Bracken is a genuinely lovely dog with so much affection to give, and despite such a rough start he is so forgiving and resilient. He is people oriented, eager to engage and quick to settle when his needs are met. In the right hands, with patience and consistency, he has the potential to grow into a wonderful companion.
