About Enzo

Our lovely boy Enzo is sadly looking for a new home. Enzo was born in a shelter in Cyprus and was the first lucky pup of his litter to come to a foster home in the UK when he was a few months old. He was adopted shortly after, but due to a change in personal circumstances unfortunately he’s found himself back at square one.

Enzo was born in December 2024, and is still very much an adolescent with all the energy, playfulness and curiosity you would expect at his age. He’s predominantly Labrador/Pointer mix, but his DNA test also revealed some Shepherd, Golden Retriever and Segugio Italiano, so he’s a real mix! He’s therefore both intelligent and athletic, and does everything with a huge amount of enthusiasm.

Enzo is an affectionate and people focused boy who thrives on human company. He loves being close and will happily lie across you or curl up for fuss and attention. He has a wonderfully goofy streak and often forgets his size, bounding about like an uncoordinated fawn. He also loves to collect shoes, clothing or cushions and parade them around the garden, not to destroy them, but simply to make you chase him. He loves to play and his silly little habits make him a very entertaining and loveable companion.

Curious by nature, Enzo enjoys watching the world go by from the bay window. He particularly loves car rides with the window cracked open so he can feel the breeze. Raised voices unsettle him which suggests he has experienced shouting in the past, so he responds far better to calm guidance and patience.

Like many young dogs, Enzo can become overexcited and overstimulated, especially when there are lots of people or dogs around. This sometimes results in him jumping up, mouthing or grabbing his lead. His family have been working on this with a behaviourist and he is already improving, but he will need an adopter who is willing to continue the work, redirect his energy and help him to manage his emotions. He is extremely food motivated and learns quickly in short bursts. He already knows sit, down, drop, bed and “what’s this” and is improving with recall. He is fast and independent once he has decided where to go, so his new family will need to keep working on this but he has heaps of potential to learn.

Enzo has been fine with visiting children aged seven and eight, but because he can be excitable we feel he would be better suited to an adult only home or one with confident teenagers. He enjoys the company of other dogs and has already made several canine friends, although his play is boisterous and full of energy. Sometimes he is nervous or unsure with unfamiliar dogs and occasionally reactive when he’s insecure, but with patient introductions and consistent positive socialisation this will improve. An older and steady resident dog could be a great influence on him.

On walks, Enzo is generally good on the lead and walks on a loose lead most of the time. Living on a busy road has made him wary of traffic and loud noises and sometimes he chooses to sit down and watch the world before moving on. His recall is not yet reliable so he is not ready for off lead freedom in open areas, but with time and continued training this may improve. Recall can take months of work with any dog.

At home, Enzo is fully housetrained and has been left alone for short periods without issue. He does not bark or become destructive when left, although he has helped himself to the occasional tissue box or waste paper basket. He takes treats gently, and waits patiently for his meals. Like many Labradors, he doesn’t need much encouragement to try to counter surf if given the chance, so food will need to be kept well out of reach!

Enzo is a bright, funny and affectionate dog who just wants some stability and focus. His ideal home will be with an calm, steady adopter who is around for most of the day and can offer him structure, training and reassurance. He would benefit from a secure garden where he can play and stretch his legs, and he may thrive with a resident dog to show him the ropes and help him learn doggy manners.

Enzo has so much potential and is ready to thrive in the right home. With patience and understanding he will grow into a loyal, playful and loving companion who will bring a tonne of joy and entertainment to his new family.
