About Lykos
Lykos sadly came into the shelter after his elderly owner passed away and none of his family members were able to take his dog in. It’s always particularly sad to see dogs that are accustomed to living in a home try and adjust to the shelter, as it’s so overwhelming, confusing and scary for them. Despite his slightly older age, Lykos has slowly but surely adapted well, and now he’s ready to find a forever home for his later years.
Lykos is around eight years old and is a sweet, calm boy with a gentle nature. Right now he’s sharing his kennel with a female dog who he enjoys hanging out with. He was previously in a kennel on his own, so we think he’s quite liked having a friend come to join him.
Although he’s a little older than most of our other shelter residents, Lykos still really likes going out for walks and is well mannered on the lead. He loves sniffing through the long grass, peeing on anything that’s already been peed on, and he also likes to just stand and observe, taking in his surroundings. He enjoys basking in the sun on a warm day, and he’s also quite a nosey neighbour so he loves watching what everyone else is up to.
Lykos finds the close capacity of the kennels quite confronting, and he really doesn’t like being barked at by other dogs in surrounding kennels. He would definitely prefer a calm household with a laidback lifestyle, and we don’t think he would be too fussed either way if he was the only dog, or if he shared with a resident dog. He can be quite independent, but if he was homed with another dog we think he’d be happiest with a female simply based on his experience in the shelter.
Being an older dog, Lykos is looking for a patient family. Just because he’s been in a home before, it doesn’t mean he will adapt seamlessly, and he still requires understanding and time to settle in properly. A UK companion home is still very different to a Cyprus companion home, and there will be a lot of change for him to navigate.
The perfect home for Lykos would be based in a calm, residential area, or semi-rurally, with direct access to a secure garden. He would suit an older family given his calmer nature, or a younger family just wanting to give a senior dog a happy life. He’d enjoy leisurely walks in the woods or along the beach, but he won’t be too demanding in his exercise needs. As long as he has a comfortable bed and lots of attention, we think he’ll be very happy.
