About Casper

Casper is another of our lovely dogs that has unfortunately found himself waiting for over a year for the right family to find him. He was brought in as a stray in February 2025, and he’s remained in the shelter ever since.

Casper is a big, cuddly boy with a very silly, soft nature. He is around three years old and is described by the shelter volunteers as a teddy bear. He really is bored behind the kennel bars, and any opportunity he gets to go outside, play in the yard or interact with people, he absolutely laps it up. While he may seem like an intimidating dog at a first glance, once you get to know Casper he is the sweetest boy you could imagine.

Being a slightly bigger breed, Casper is looking for a more experienced home who are confident with big dogs, and could manage walking a stronger dog. Although he doesn’t ordinarily pull (in fact he’s actually quite polite on the lead), if he does in a new home we would like the peace of mind that his handlers were comfortable working on that behaviour. He may not exactly be the smartest pup of the bunch, and sometimes you can see the cogs in his head turning, but he is so keen to please and thrives off positive reinforcement.

Casper is brilliant with people and loves cuddles. He is a soft boy and just wants to be someone’s big baby. He absolutely loves being fussed over and he is confident with men and women alike. He would be a great companion for a couple looking for a small bear to share their lives with. He would love a fairly active lifestyle and would be more than willing to accompany his family on each and every endeavour. He is also very friendly with children and once his initial excitement has subsided, he also knows to be very gentle.

Casper has been sharing his kennel with another dog ever since he arrived. He’s had lots of friends, but one by one he’s seen them come and go. He is more familiar with the company of female dogs, and could quite happily live alongside one. He can be a bit selective with males, especially if they’re not calm and don’t give him space.

If you’re looking for a lovable lump to share the sofa with, Casper is your boy. He’s waited a year so far, and we’d love for his new beginning to be on the horizon before long. He’s a very affectionate, loyal and sociable dog, and it’s about time he got his second chance.
