About Dona

Dona was rescued from a horrible public shelter in Bosnia and is now living in a small, caring shelter while she waits for her forever family. Her early experiences were rough, but with care and patience she has made steady progress. Her sister was adopted last year and is now living happily in the UK, and now we would love to see Dona given the same chance!

Dona is a gentle, soft natured dog. She can be a little cautious when first meeting new people, but once she feels safe she relaxes and enjoys affection and asks for attention in a very sweet and gentle manner. She isn’t pushy or demanding and tends to observe the behaviour of other dogs before engaging, especially in unfamiliar situations.

Dona is good on the lead and really enjoys going for walks with the volunteers. At the kennels she lives alongside many other dogs and has adapted to a busier environment, but would thrive best in a calm home with a relaxed atmosphere.

Dona gets on very well with other dogs and is friendly and polite in group settings. If there is tension or noise, she removes herself rather than getting involved. She can live happily with other dogs, but would also manage well as an only dog if she had regular human company. She is also friendly and calm around cats and has shown no issues around them.

Dona is generally good with children, but sudden noise and fast movement can make her uneasy. For that reason, she would be better suited to a home with older, calmer children or adults only. She feels most comfortable in environments that are steady and low-pressure, and she really welcomes a predictable routine as it helps her to feel settled.

Dona would suit a calm household outside of the city, ideally with access to a garden. A quieter, countryside or semi-rural setting would allow her to relax and continue building confidence at her own pace. She doesn’t need a high energy lifestyle, but would enjoy regular walks, gentle routines, and being included as part of everyday life. She is such a sweetheart and given the opportunity to properly adapt to a companion in a loving, family household, we know she will shine just as her sister has done previously.
