About Gemma

Gemma’s litter, aka the G pups, arrived at the shelter in June after they were all found living together as strays without their mum. They were terrified to begin with and spent a lot of time huddled together in their kennel, completely overwhelmed and frightened. After a few days they gradually started to get a bit braver, and now they’re ready for adoption.

Gemma is an absolute stunner and has the happiest face. Her confidence has grown so much over the past few weeks and she’s come a long way from the quivering wreck that first arrived with us. She is now so friendly, silly and playful, and she loves hanging out with people. She’s always first in line for a treat, she loves napping in a pile with her brothers and sisters, and she’s also a fan of the paddling pool.

Gemma is curious about her surroundings and always keen to check out what’s going on around her. She’s not very confident on the lead just yet, but she’s getting there and it’s still early days right now. She’s very affectionate now and loves the opportunity to have some 1-2-1 time with the volunteers, rather than fighting for attention with her siblings!

Gemma is great with other dogs and would be more than happy living alongside a resident dog that she can learn from and play with. She’s a very friendly girl and reads other dogs very well, but we also feel that she would be confident enough to be the only dog at home, although she may take a little longer to adjust.

The ideal home for Gemma would be a loving family home that are looking for a young dog to raise outside of the city. She would prefer a home with access to a garden, and this will also help with house training. As she grows into an adult dog, she will be looking for a moderately active lifestyle, and of course being a puppy she will both enjoy and benefit from some introductory training.

At just four months old the G pups are still very much learning each and every day. There are lots of different personalities within their litter, but they’re all growing and changing at their own pace. Each of them will need patient, understanding families who recognise that adapting to a companion lifestyle will be a very new concept for all of them, as they’ve never lived in a home before. And as with any puppies, they will need continued socialisation, training, and plenty of company.

Gemma has had some initial exposure to children and we think she would be happy living with children. She is still a puppy, so it’s important that there are boundaries in place if she’s living alongside kids, for both parties! She’s a very playful and affectionate puppy, and we think she’d blossom in a home where she has plenty of company, focus, and fun!
