About Grant
Grant’s litter, aka the G pups, arrived at the shelter in June after they were all found living together as strays without their mum. They were terrified to begin with and spent a lot of time huddled together in their kennel, completely overwhelmed and frightened. After a few days they gradually started to get a bit braver, and now they’re ready for adoption.
At a glance, Grant looks just as confident as his siblings. He’s always at the bars of the kennel jumping up to meet new people with his brothers and sisters, and the fact that he’s the only pup in the litter with huge ears also draws a lot of attention to him. However, Grant is actually the most nervous of the pups. As soon as he’s separated from his siblings, he is very unsure of what to do. He is such a sweet, soft and gentle boy, and he just needs a slightly more patient, calm and understanding home who can go at his pace. We’ve seen so many pups like Grant in our time and the power of the perfect home cannot be underestimated!
Grant is a submissive boy and he’s always a little unsure around new people until he knows that they’re going to treat him with kindness. When he gets to know you, he likes to just sit beside you and chill, and he loves an ear scratch or a belly rub. He’s not confident on the lead yet so that will take a bit of work, but there’s not a bad bone in his body and he really does want to trust people, he just takes a little longer than his siblings.
Grant would be better suited to a home with another resident dog that he can learn from and play with. As soon as he’s away from his siblings, he panics and is visibly less confident. Another dog would definitely help his transition from shelter to sofa, and help him feel less overwhelmed and confused.
The ideal home for Grant would be a loving, patient family home that are looking for a young dog to raise outside of the city. As Grant is more nervous than his siblings, a calm home in a quieter area would be great for him, and we’re sure his confidence will grow once he’s settled and feeling more secure. As he grows into an adult dog, he will be looking for a moderately active lifestyle, and some basic training.
At just four months old the G pups are still very much learning each and every day. There are lots of different personalities within their litter, but they’re all growing and changing at their own pace. Each of them will need patient, understanding families who recognise that adapting to a companion lifestyle will be a very new concept for all of them, as they’ve never lived in a home before. And as with any puppies, they will need continued socialisation, training, and plenty of company.
Grant is just a baby and has never had an adverse reaction to a child, but in order to keep things predictable for him we’re looking for a home with older children only. He just needs some time and understanding to come out of his shell, and he’s only a few months old right now - he will change so much within the first few months of his adoption and it will simply take a special, caring family to give him the love and support he needs. We’re already seeing glimpses of the silly, charming and playful little pup he is, and it will be so rewarding to see him really flourish with his new family.
