About Jasper
Jasper was brought into the shelter in Cyprus as a stray without a microchip, although he arrived in good condition and is clearly comfortable around people. From the moment he arrived, it was obvious that he is a very people focused boy who craves interaction and affection, and finds the shelter environment both limiting and overwhelming at times.
Jasper is a lovely, silly and slightly goofy young dog with a big personality and even bigger feelings. He is incredibly handsome and full of enthusiasm, but sometimes struggles to contain his excitement when he gets the chance to be fussed over. He means absolutely no harm, he simply gets carried away in the moment, which is very understandable given how little stimulation shelter life can offer. He loves treats, enjoys attention and is desperate to make friends.
Around people, Jasper is friendly, social and very bouncy. He is quick to approach and keen to engage, but would benefit from continued training to help him learn calmer ways to channel his excitement. In the right environment, with consistency and positive reinforcement, we think he will make great progress and really enjoy learning. Given his hound genes, he’d be great at scent work!
Jasper is good with other dogs and currently shares a kennel with a lovely Labrador who copes well with his energetic play style. The two of them get on nicely, and Jasper is able to take social cues from her when she’s had enough. He could live with another dog, but is also confident enough to live as the only dog as long as his social and exercise needs are met.
Jasper enjoys attention from children, but due to his bouncy nature we would recommend a home with children aged eight and over unless they are very dog experienced. We wouldn’t recommend him for a home with cats.
We feel Jasper would be happiest in a semi rural or rural setting, with access to a garden and an active lifestyle. A quieter environment away from the constant stimulation of city life would allow him to settle, focus and build confidence. He is very people oriented, eager to please and desperate to be part of a family unit. With the right guidance, patience and structure, Jasper will grow into a loyal, affectionate and very fun companion for the right home.
