About Barney

Barney is another new entry to the shelter and we are already in love with him! He was brought in by the dog warden without a collar or microchip, and sadly no one came to collect him, so now he’s looking for a new home to call his own.

Barney is around 18 months old and is the sweetest, happiest boy. Despite being in a shelter setting, he remains always so enthusiastic, good natured and always has the waggiest tail. He is brilliant with people and has no fear around strangers. He loves hanging out with anyone who’ll spend time with him and he’s a very, very friendly dog. He would be a great match for a home looking for a bit of a social butterfly who would enjoy being fussed over by a lot of people.

Barney shares his kennel with a number of other dogs in the shelter and understands how to navigate group dynamics. He can sometimes be a bit bouncy and spatially unaware, which might annoy older, more calm dogs, but he means no harm. If another dog challenges him, he is actually really submissive and will avoid any kind of confrontation. He’s a lover not a fighter!

The perfect home for Barney would be with a family who enjoy an active lifestyle, have a garden, and are around more frequently during the day. He thrives on company and he would be unhappy spending long periods of time alone at home. We don’t know if Barney has ever had a proper home before, so the adjustment from shelter to sofa might take a little time. As long as he has plenty of reassurance and patience, we’re sure he will settle in really well.

Barney could definitely share his home with another dog and loves to play with others of a similar energy level to him. If he is the only resident dog, opportunities to engage with other dogs, such as day-care or group walks, would still be encouraged as he loves the company and will continue to grow his social skills.

We feel that Barney would be suitable for a home with children, but as he can be bouncy and excitable he can often jump up. Although he doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, it’s something to be aware of especially if the children in question are not confident around dogs. For older children, or those with previous dog experience, he would be a great match.

In the right home we know Barney is going to absolutely shine. He is a loyal, loving, energetic and intelligent boy. He is sweet, sensitive and very people oriented, and he’s going to make someone so happy given the opportunity.
