About Kevin
Kevin was brought into the shelter as a stray by the dog warden at the very beginning of the year. He was quite shellshocked to start with and very overwhelmed by all the noise and comings and goings at the shelter, but within a week he had really found his feet, made some friends, and settled in well.
Kevin is a young dog at only around a year old, and is an active, hilarious and affectionate boy. He is also really beautiful (his pictures don’t do I’m justice!) but has so far been overlooked, most likely because he really does just blend in at the shelter. It’s so much harder to get the black dogs noticed, and Kevin hasn’t been so lucky just yet.
During the past few months though, he’s taken the opportunity to make friends with lots of other dogs and due to his sociable, adaptable nature, he’s been integrated into lots of different groups. He currently shares a kennel with a group of siblings (males and females) who have just about accepted him as one of their own! He loves to play and really gets along with other pups of a similar nature to him.
Kevin is still really only a puppy and has a bouncy, energetic nature, and is still learning every day. He would really benefit from some basic training to work on some entry level commands and manners, and because he’s so keen to please we think he will respond really well. He is food motivated, but also very play motivated too, and he absolutely loves to chase after a ball or run around with a toy in the yard!
The ideal home for Kevin would be an active, semi-rural home with a family who enjoy spending time outdoors, understand that a young dog needs training and direction, and are looking for a dog to really be a part of their everyday lives. Kevin loves being with people, and can sometimes be whiney, so we think that he could potentially struggle with some separation anxiety in the early days.
Although Kevin is great with other dogs, as long as he has plenty of human company during the day we think that he would be happy enough living on his own. He would still benefit from opportunities to socialise and interact with other dogs though, such as at day-care or on group walks. This will continue to help him grow into a balanced boy with good social skills.
Kevin is super loving and adores human affection, so we would love to see him find the outdoorsy family he deserves. He will make an excellent companion on long walks and adventures, and he’s so ready to get out of the shelter and enjoy a new and exciting lease of life.
