About Rango

Little Rango was brought into the shelter recently after he’d been found by the dog warden and initially been taken in my the municipal pound. He was in good condition, so it’s very possible that he did have a home, but sadly without a microchip or collar, it’s impossible to reunite lost dogs. Despite lots of ‘found’ posts circulating on social media and within vet clinics, no one came forward to collect Rango.

Rango is just a baby at around five months old. He’s probably a mix of Beagle/Pointer, and he is the cheekiest, smartest and funniest little dog. He has so much character and is a brilliant mix of fun and enthusiasm, but he’s also affectionate and has such a keenness to please. He has already learned a beautiful ‘sit’ in the shelter and takes so much pride in showing you. He is very food motivated and this will definitely help with ongoing training!

Although Rango is only a puppy, he is shorter and stockier than a typical Pointer puppy, and is likely to remain on the smaller side of medium when fully grown. When you first arrive to see him, like so many of the shelter puppies, he is absolutely beside himself with excitement to see you. We have been gradually working on being calm and keeping four feet on the floor, and for a baby he is picking up these commands really well. He is a promising student!

Rango is wonderful with other dogs and shares his kennel with a female puppy at the moment. He is also one of Toby’s new friends, and his silly, fun loving nature has really helped Toby gain some confidence and social skills, which has been so nice to see. Rango is quite oblivious to the positive impact he’s had though, and as far as he’s concerned he’s just having a great time every day with his new friends.

Being a pup, Rango can be nibbly and is still going through a teething phase, so lots of toys he can chew will be really helpful and soothing as he settles in. This may be a bit much for very young children, especially alongside his bouncy behaviour. Although we know he means no harm he would be best suited for children aged 6+ we feel, unless they have considerable experience around dogs.

As with any puppy, Rango has lots to learn and is looking for a loving, patient family to guide him and help him settle into life as a companion. He is so keen to belong, and has such a sociable, friendly nature, that we’re sure he will slot into a family very well. He can definitely live alongside other resident dogs too.

Rango would enjoy an active lifestyle, and would be best suited to a home with a garden as he enjoys being outdoors. He’s not quite mastered lead training just yet due to his young age and limited opportunities in the shelter, but with routine and consistency we’re confident it won’t be long before he’s mastered that too! If you’re looking for an enthusiastic, playful and devoted little dog, you should definitely consider Rango.
