About Roo

Roo arrived in the shelter back in September after she was found abandoned with her siblings. They all managed to find homes quite quickly, but for some reason poor Roo got left behind. She was just three months old when she arrived, and she’s spent the majority of her life behind bars. It’s awful seeing puppies grow up in the shelter, so we hope her forever family will find her soon.

Roo is on the smaller side of medium and we believe she’s a Pointer mix. She was so scared and withdrawn when she arrived, but has blossomed in confidence over the past few months and is much happier and friendlier. She has responded so well to being in the company of other dogs and we think this has really helped her social skills. She is very good at reading canine body language now, and knows which dogs are ready to play, and which dogs need their space.

In the setting of the shelter, Roo comes across as quite confident, but we think she will regress in a home environment to begin with as it will be so much for her to adapt to. With this in mind, we do think that she would benefit from the company of a sociable, friendly adult dog who can help show her the ropes. Roo is playful and bouncy at times, so a grumpy dog who likes calm and quiet wouldn’t be the best match!

The ideal home for Roo would be a semi-rural home with a garden. She is likely to feel quite confined when she first arrives, as she has never lived in a home before. This can feel quite overwhelming for a new arrival, so having direct access to a secure garden can really help them to recognise they’re safe, and not trapped in their new home. She will need a gentle, patient and understanding approach to start with, but we’re sure that once she’s decompressed and found her feet, the silly, playful, cuddly puppy that she really is will soon come out to play!

Roo could live with children, but she is bouncy and won’t understand boundaries just yet, so we’d prefer homes with slightly older children. We think she would be happier with another dog, a fairly active lifestyle, and someone prepared to give a shelter puppy the time, training and love she needs to finally recognise that she’s home.
