About Todd
Todd arrived from Bosnia as a puppy back in 2021 and has always been an anxious boy. Despite continued efforts by his family to support him to the absolute best of their ability throughout the years, his behaviour has regressed to a point where they simply don’t feel they can give him the kind of experienced care and controlled environment he needs. After years of environmental management, behaviourists, medication trials, diet changes, and no shortage of love, Todd remains unpredictable and a bite risk. With this in mind we know that we are asking for a miracle in finding him a new home, but regardless, we need to try.
Todd is five years old and a beautiful boy. With his immediate family he is loyal, loving, playful and gentle. He is great with dogs within the family and knows how to adapt his play style to suit, he loves a belly scratch, and enjoys chasing after a ball. He is responsive to training, loves getting his toys out all over the floor, and any opportunity he gets to lie in mud, he’ll be there!
For anyone outside of Todd’s immediate family, he is a different dog. Unfortunately he doesn’t trust anyone at all, and he is reactive, vocal and unpredictable. Because of his, Todd is never off lead, has been muzzle trained, and is not involved in social situations with other people or dogs. He doesn’t even trust friends and family who have visited frequently throughout his five years at home, and his behaviour can change with little warning.
Due to his unpredictability and mistrust of other people, the only kind of home that would be suitable for him would be with an extremely experienced handler, a behaviourist, or someone who has worked with difficult dogs in the past. We can’t just place him anywhere as he remains a significant bite risk, so this is not a case of ‘any home is better than no home’. Safety is paramount for all involved.
Environmentally, Todd would be best suited to a rural or semi-rural home with a garden. He’s of moderate energy levels and with dogs he knows well he is great. With proper introductions we think he could live with other resident dogs. Although he currently lives with a young child, we’re looking for an adult only home for obvious reasons, and without any cats or small pets due to Todd’s prey drive.
Todd is loyal to his family and an intelligent dog. He is obedient unless there is an overwhelming external stimulus, and he responds well to commands. He is good around food and doesn’t show resource guarding tendencies. He has also responded well to crate training.
We so hope that there might be a five star home out there with the experience and understanding that Todd needs. He is a beloved companion, and this has been a heartbreaking decision for his family. We’re exploring every avenue to give him that final chance, but all onward decisions must be made with his safety and welfare considered first and foremost. If you think you can give Todd the right kind of home, please get in touch.
