About Zane

Zane was brought into the shelter by the dog warden in the summer after he was found near a supermarket looking for discarded food. He was paired up with a kennel mate quickly who he immediately formed a bond with, but when she was moved to a different shelter he got left behind. We thought he might get noticed quickly for his beautiful ice blue eye and handsome good looks, but over a year later Zane is still at the shelter, and there’s no forever home on the horizon.

Zane is now part of a group of five, including both males and females, and although he’s adapted and gets on well with them, he’s so ready to find a home where he can finally have some 1-2-1 focus and enjoy a more calm environment. Being a Pointer mix, Zane is an active, highly affectionate, and intelligent boy. He is very sociable, friendly and human oriented, and at around two years old he’s still only a young dog.

Zane is looking for a home outside of the city where he can enjoy a bit more of the countryside, experience lovely long walks, and escape the hustle and bustle of a more urban setting. He would love to have green spaces on his doorstep where he can enjoy exploring and following his nose. The shelter can be a frustrating environment for higher energy dogs who really exercise as a release. He is very, very smart and so eager to please. He has learnt to do a beautiful sit in the shelter and looks proud as punch every time he does it. He’s very food motivated and super keen to learn new things.

Zane is super friendly and loves being around people. He lives quite happily alongside other dogs so we think he could bond successfully with a well-matched resident dog who’d like to play with him. A female of a similar size would probably be his preference, but he does also get along with balanced male dogs in his group. His kennel neighbours in the next pen however are more boisterous, confident males, and he doesn’t like it when they bark at him. He particularly likes an older female kennel mate, Pepper, who is a similar energy to him. They share everything nicely together and love each other’s company.

Zane would be a great adventure dog. He’s always so happy to spend time with people and is very sociable, loyal and trusting. He shows a lot of promise in his training and loves being praised, so it would be a missed opportunity not to get his clever mind learning some new things! He is going to absolutely flourish in a proper home environment and after all this time it’s the second chance that he so deserves.
