About Aslan
Aslan was brought into the shelter after he and other dog were found living as strays. We don’t know how long they’d been there, but they were both in quite good condition and seemed quite streetwise, so we think they’d been close to somewhere where they were being fed regularly. Although they were initially quite scared when they came in with the dog warden, within a few days they’d shaken off their nerves and settled in.
Aslan is a beautiful dog and really loves people. We’re hopeful this means that somewhere along the line, he’s been treated with kindness. He is trusting, hugely affectionate, and very friendly towards new people, so the volunteers love spending time with him as he’s just the happiest boy all of the time.
We think that Aslan has spent a reasonable amount of time roaming free as quite a lot is new to him. He’s not familiar with the lead, so this is taking a bit of work to introduce him to, and he jumps up a lot, so we’re working on that too. It comes from a place of love and he’s just wanting to be close, but he’s not a small dog so it would definitely be overwhelming for young children despite his good intentions!
When he’s outside in the yard, Aslan is on a mission to investigate everything and he loves to follow interesting smells, roll about in the grass and be a nosey neighbour. He is very interested in everything going on around him, and it can sometimes he hard to get his attention so he needs plenty of time to potter about before you can work on training and focus.
Aslan currently shares his kennel with a female dog and although she wasn’t best pleased to be sharing her space when he arrived, he hasn’t once uttered a paw out of place, so she has accepted that he’s there to stay! The pair of them now quite enjoy hanging out together sunbathing, and Aslan is very good at just co-existing. He is definitely quite a silly, clumsy dog, but his heart is definitely in the right place and he just wants to belong.
Aslan would be a lovely companion for a family based more semi-rurally with a garden, and with a calm home atmosphere but a fairly active lifestyle. He would appreciate plenty of human or company, and we feel that he can live as the only resident dog. He’s a special boy and we know there’s someone out there missing their soul dog - here he is!
