About Birdie
Birdie was brought in as yet another stray without a microchip, and no one ever came to the shelter to claim her. She has settled in really well despite the busy, noisy environment, and she’s proving to be quite the superstar.
The first thing we noticed about Birdie shorty after she arrived was just how intelligent she is. She is very quick to learn, and given she knows some basic commands already we’re fairly convinced that she likes had a home at some point. She knows to sit, give her paw (very enthusiastically), and she’s not far off with lie down. She is so keen to please and loves being rewarded with treats of any kind. She’s very serious when the treats come out, and she’s ready to impress!
At around a year old, Birdie is still only an adolescent dog, so is looking for an active home with a family keen to continue her training and socialisation. She can be bouncy and bubbly around new people, so needs family that are confident handling a bigger dog. She means no harm at all, but she has lanky legs and clumsy paws at times!
Birdie is really good with other dogs. She shares her kennel with a male shepherd and has absolutely no problems sharing her space with him. She is happy eating near him, shows no resource guarding, and takes treats politely. There’s no competition between the two of them, and we think she would get along well with another dog of a similar energy ad size in her new forever home. She is a confident dog though, and doesn’t depend on canine company.
Birdie is great with people and very sociable. She is always eager to greet new faces and loves to spend time out in the fields with the volunteers at the weekend. She is getting better on the lead the most accustomed she gets to it, and we definitely think that she would be best suited to an active, outdoorsy home with a family who love exploring, long walks and adventures. She would also prefer a home with direct access to a secure garden.
Birdie has heaps of love to give and will make such a loyal, loving companion in the right home. She would love a family to smother her in the love she craves, and she will definitely repay you with undying devotion. Once she’s bonded with you, she’s bonded forever.
