About Bagel

Our soft boy Bagel is a new arrival in the shelter and such a sweetheart. He was found as a stray days before the end of the hunting season, likely abandoned or lost. The hunting mentality and throwaway culture of dogs in Cyprus results in thousands of hounds finding their way into the shelters across the island every season, so we’re no stranger to beagles and pointers who haven’t quite made the cut.

Bagel is around a year old is as velvety on the inside as he is on the outside. He is such a softie, and has a gentle, submissive and affectionate personality. He can be a little bit shy to start with, but it doesn’t take much to win him over and before long he’ll be jumping up for cuddles and leaning in for a fuss. He’s very much still a baby, so learning each and every day, but he’s doing well at lead-training and is almost there with a very smart ‘sit’ for a treat!

Bagel is great with other dogs and mixes into a group without any issues. He is gentle, playful, friendly and completely avoids any kind of conflict. He just wants to be friends with everyone and loves hanging out with dogs of a similar temperament to him. He would be very happy living in a home with another resident dog, but we do think he would also be okay on his own provided he’s given time to adapt at his own pace and lots of reassurance.

Bagel would be suitable for a family with children due to his lovely temperament. Although he is a puppy and will need continued training and socialisation, he has a great character and loves being in the company of people. As long as his family can balance the focus and attention he needs as a young dog alongside young children, we think he will adapt to a companion household really well.

Bagel would be best suited to a semi-rural home with a garden and a fairly active lifestyle. Being a hound mix he will need lots of opportunities to explore his surrounding environment nose first, as following scents is something that comes naturally to him. Hounds love a sniffy walk or any kind of enrichment that encourages scenting!

Bagel is going to be a fantastic companion, and we know that he will really come into his own in a secure, loving environment where he understands that he has his own forever family and finally belongs.
