About Fisher

Fisher was brought into the shelter in Cyprus as a young stray, found abandoned with his brothers. He’s only been in the shelter a short time, but even so, he’s already showing just how lovely a little soul he is, and how much potential he has when given the chance to feel safe.

Fisher is an absolute darling. He’s a gentle, thoughtful boy with a soft nature and a heart of gold. He’s naturally on the shy side and can be a bit reserved when faced with new people or unfamiliar situations, but his confidence is growing day by day. Rather than reacting or barking when he’s unsure, Fisher tends to hang back quietly, watching from a distance while he works things out. He’s clearly curious about the world and very eager to trust, he just needs a bit of time and reassurance to get there. Oh and treats definitely help him to let his guard down!

Around people, Fisher can be a little unsure at first, especially with men who are very tall or move suddenly, but it’s obvious that he wants human connection. If a volunteer is interacting with other dogs nearby, he’ll sit and stare longingly through the kennel bars. Once you get down to his level and give him a chance to feel safe, his soft, friendly side starts to come through, and treats are a great way to help him build positive associations and confidence. He’s a sensitive boy who responds best to calm, gentle handling.

Fisher is great with other dogs and really benefits from their company. He has a submissive temperament and never tries to challenge others. He takes comfort from being around sociable, confident dogs, and he learns a lot by watching them. We feel that he seems to gain confidence just by being part of a group and for this reason, we feel he would really thrive in a home with another dog, as he’s never known life on his own.

Because of his shy nature, we think Fisher would be best suited to a home with children aged eight and over, who can be calm, predictable and respectful of his space. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but given his gentle and submissive personality, he could potentially live with a confident, dog savvy cat. A quieter, more rural or semi rural home with access to a garden would suit him well, giving him space to explore at his own pace.

Fisher needs a calm, patient home where he can continue to build confidence and learn what it means to be part of a family. The shelter can only offer him so much, but in the right home environment, we truly believe he will blossom into a wonderful companion. He’s still just a baby, learning every day, and with the support of his people and ideally another dog by his side, Fisher has all the makings of a truly special little friend.
