About Chris

Chris arrived at the shelter in September having been found as a stray amid the hunting season. The hunting season months are so long for everyone working in dog rescue, and we see countless numbers of abandoned, lost, unwanted and neglected hounds and spaniels come through our doors, discarded and mistreated by the hunting community. Chris was one of many.

At two and a half years old, Chris is still a young, energetic and fun-loving boy. He is fantastic with other dogs and responds so well to being part of a group. He is sociable, friendly, and able to read different characters really well. He loves tying to instigate play with those of a similar personality to him, and he’s very polite when meeting new dogs.

Being a pointer, Chris is an active and intelligent dog. Pointers have the ability to make you think that they’re actually just soft, silly dogs, but in actual fact they are smart, incredibly loyal and masters of taking over the entire sofa. They are amazing companions, the best dogs to snuggle with, but they’re also full of stamina and hungry for an adventure!

Although we’re not sure that Chris has ever had a proper companion home before, we think he has experienced a degree of kindness somewhere along the line, as he’s very eager to trust and always keen to engage with new people. However, he will flinch if you move quickly and he’s not expecting it, so chances are he showed a lot of love and loyalty to someone who didn’t treat him with as much respect.

Chris can be very bouncy when he’s overexcited and he takes a moment to calm down, but he’s had such limited opportunities to interact with many people over the past few months that every chance he does get is super exciting to him! He wiggles his entire body when he wags his tail, and tries so hard to impress you with a ‘sit’, even though he’s dying to spring off the floor!

The ideal home for Chris would be a semi-rural, active home with a garden. He’s an explorer, and he would love an outdoorsy family to share that with. He’s also a keen bird watcher and takes great interest in the doves that roost above his kennel - so with this in mind recall might be something that takes a bit more time to work on if he’s easily distracted by wildlife.

We know that there’s a lovely home out there with a Chris sized space on the sofa, and it’ll be lovely to see him get an opportunity to become the apple of someone’s eye, which is just what he craves.
