About Flipper

Flipper and his brother were rescued from the mountains where they had been most likely abandoned and living as strays for at least a month. They’d been surviving on scraps from the bins and whatever the locals were leaving out for them, but it took a while before anyone could actually catch them.

Finally, the boys were brought to the shelter. They arrived as nervous wrecks and wouldn’t come near anyone for a week. Slowly, slowly, with a lot of treats involved, we managed to gain their trust and fast forward a few weeks, they are miles better than before.

Flipper is definitely the shyer of the two, although he’s still made significant progress since he arrived. Initially you couldn’t get anywhere near him, whereas now he follows the lead of the other pups and will come for a short pet, take treats and is comfortable hanging out near you. The uncertainty and fear that was so obvious in his sad little eyes when he first came to us has now disappeared, and he’s so much happier.

Flipper is now ready to find his forever home. He is looking for a calm home with a patient family who can give him the time and understanding he needs to adjust. No doubt he will find the adjustment a little difficult to begin with, but with plenty of reassurance we’re sure that he will start to understand that he’s safe, and he’s home. He would thrive with a relaxed home atmosphere, based semi-rurally, and with access to a garden.

Based on how well he has responded to other dogs, we are definitely looking for a home with a resident pup for Flipper to make friends with. A sociable, playful character that can be patient and gentle with him would be perfect. We have no doubt that once his confidence has increased, there will be so much more to learn about his personality. After all, he’s just a baby and he’s just looking for someone who can teach him that he is loved, wanted and secure.

Flipper is nothing but a sweetheart, however a home with young, noisy children would just be too much for him at the moment. An adult only home, or a family with teenagers would be preferable for him. Predictability, routine and patience will be key in helping him find his feet. We sense there’s a silly side to Flipper that we’re yet to see, so we’re quite envious that his new family will get to encourage that side out of him as he settles in!

The shelter environment, try as we might, can only offer so much, so dogs that need more than we can provide will make much more progress in a home than with us. We would love to find Flipper a home to make sure he doesn’t lose all of his puppy-hood to the confines of a kennel.
