About Godfrey

Godfrey’s litter, aka the G pups, arrived at the shelter in June after they were all found living together as strays without their mum. They were terrified to begin with and spent a lot of time huddled together in their kennel, completely overwhelmed and frightened. After a few days they gradually started to get a bit braver, and now they’re ready for adoption.

Godfrey is a sweetheart and it took us a little bit longer to earn his trust than some of his siblings. The girls are definitely more confident than their brothers in this litter! Once Godfrey realised that he was safe, he ventured out to explore his new surroundings and he has been quite taken with the toys, the paddling pool (or the water bowl if the pool isn’t filled!) and the fact that so many treats are on offer! He’s realised it’s not so bad after all.

Godfrey is really cute when he gets to spend some 1-2-1 time with the volunteers, and he really enjoys being the centre of attention for a little while. Although you can tell he’s a little unsure, he revels in the fuss and loves being cuddled and tickled. He’s a very loving little dog and once his initial nerves have subsided he’s quite the snuggler, and he also gives excellent kisses. He’s not familiar with the lead just yet, but when he’s outside in the yard sniffing about he’s very curious about other dogs, and bravely approaches to give them a little sniff before running back to safety! He’s also one of the smaller pups of the litter.

Godfrey is great with other dogs and would be more than happy living alongside a resident dog that he can learn from and play with. He’s a very friendly boy and reads other dogs very well, and we think he would probably prefer a home with another dog, but we’re open to considering placing him on his own if we think it’s the right fit.

The ideal home for Godfrey would be a loving family home that are looking for a young dog to raise outside of the city. He would prefer a home with access to a garden, and this will also help with house training. As he grows into an adult dog, he will be looking for a moderately active lifestyle, and he would also do well with some basic training.

At just four months old the G pups are still very much learning each and every day. There are lots of different personalities within their litter, but they’re all growing and changing at their own pace. Each of them will need patient, understanding families who recognise that adapting to a companion lifestyle will be a very new concept for all of them, as they’ve never lived in a home before. And as with any puppies, they will need continued socialisation, training, and plenty of company.

Godfrey has had some initial exposure to children and we think he would be suitable to live alongside slightly older children, as he can still sometimes be a little skittish. He is still a puppy, so it’s important that there are boundaries in place if he’s living alongside kids, for both parties! Godfrey is such a little heartbreaker and we know that someone isn’t going to be able to stop themselves falling in love with his charming little face - and we don’t blame you!
