About Ivory
Our sweet girl Ivory was brought into the shelter as a stray puppy by the dog warden, alongside five siblings, after being found abandoned without their mum at just two months old. Thankfully, a nursing mother dog already in the shelter accepted the puppies as her own and raised them alongside her pups. Ivory spent the first couple of months with her, her own siblings and her adopted siblings, meaning she had plenty of playtime, fun and company as she settled into the shelter.
While most of the puppies were adopted locally, Ivory was the one of the few left behind. She’s now grown into a confident, affectionate and sociable young dog, and it’s hard to understand why she was overlooked. Not only is she beautiful, but she has such a gorgeous nature.
Ivory is friendly, playful and very people-oriented. She enjoys being involved in whatever is going on around her, loves affection, and is more than happy to climb into your lap for a cuddle once she feels comfortable. She has a gentle, polite nature and is good at reading both people and dogs, which makes her easy to be around despite her young age.
Ivory has lived with other dogs her entire life and gets on very well with her kennel mates. She enjoys a bit of rough and tumble, but she also knows when to give other dogs space and responds appropriately to canine body language. She would be very happy living with another dog and often gains confidence from following their lead, but we think she could also cope as an only dog as she forms strong bonds with humans.
Around people, Ivory is friendly and affectionate. She can be a little unsure around unfamiliar men at first, particularly if they’re very tall, but this is rooted in uncertainty rather than fear. Once she’s had time to get to know someone, she relaxes quickly and becomes warm and super soppy. She enjoys close contact, whether that’s leaning in for a snuggle, sitting watching you from her kennel, or nibbling on your shoelaces!
Ivory is friendly with children and, based on her temperament, we believe she could live with cats. She is observant, respectful, and more likely to be submissive rather than push boundaries. She’s had some very brief exposure to cats and showed no behaviours that we were concerned about.
As a young shepherd mix (although smaller than a typical shepherd), Ivory will need a home that can offer her a moderately active lifestyle, access to a garden, and regular opportunities to explore and exercise. She would suit a family living slightly outside of the city who enjoy getting outdoors. She would also benefit from basic training, regular play, and plenty of human interaction throughout the day. Ivory is a bright, affectionate and adaptable young dog who has quietly waited her turn, and we can’t wait for her to find the family she deserves. She will repay you in nothing but love!
