About Joey
Joey’s litter arrived in the shelter when they were just one month old, after their mum was found as a stray. Unfortunately, their mum was absolutely terrified and it took a while for her to accept the shelter volunteers, but thankfully as the puppies started getting more independent and venturing out of their kennel on their own, they were much more sociable and keen to engage with people. It took a little while to work on their confidence, but they’re all doing so well and are now ready to find their new homes.
Joey is a little sweetheart. He’s a bit shy and sensitive, and he needs a calm, kind and gentle family to help him come out of his shell a bit more. He really wants to trust, but he’s just a bit more reserved than some of his siblings, and takes a bit longer to befriend new people. He has the sweetest little heart though and in a secure and stable environment he will start to flourish.
Joey is very playful and friendly with other dogs, and would be more than happy living alongside a resident dog that he can learn from and play with. He would definitely adapt more quickly with the company and guidance of another dog, but as long as his new family are prepared to go at his pace and be patient with him, he could also be adopted as the only dog.
Joey’s ideal home would be a loving family home that are looking for a young dog to raise outside of the city, who they can dedicate time to training and socialising. He would love someone who can give him all the focus and affection that he craves, as well as the reassurance that the world isn’t so scary. He needs some encouragement to be a little braver, but he’ll get there.
Each of the pups will need patient, understanding families who recognise that adapting to a companion lifestyle will be a very new concept for all of them, as they’ve never lived in a home before. And as with any puppies, they will need continued socialisation, training, and plenty of company.
Joey has had some initial exposure to children and we think he would be suitable to live alongside slightly older children, as he is more reserved, but with gentle children we think he will form a lovely bond. He’s just a baby, and his personality and confidence will continue to grow. We can’t wait to see where he’s at in a year’s time!
