About Kipper

Kipper was brought into the shelter after being found wandering near an army camp. He had no microchip, but there was a very obvious indent in his fur where there had previously been a collar. As is often that case, no one came to the shelter to come and collect him, and after two weeks he was legally signed over to us for rehoming.

Kipper is around three years old and he’s a big, soft boy. In typical Labrador fashion, he would sell his soul for a treat, and is surprisingly coordinated at catching them mid-air. He arrived with very sad eyes, but it wasn’t long before he started socialising with the other shelter residents and he has since quickly settled in.

Kipper is a really friendly boy. He’ll wait for you to come to see him in his kennel with a very waggy tail and excited eyes, and he loves any kind of attention. Being a larger dog, when he jumps up he doesn’t quite realise his strength and weight, so this is something that will need a bit of training. He arrived already knowing a beautiful sit and paw though, so we’re convinced that at some point he’s known what it is to be a part of a family.

In the company of other dogs, Kipper has behaved really well so far. He’s shared a kennel with another female Labrador and the pair of them were exceptionally goofy together. He has also been introduced to some of our young male dogs, and he was very polite, inquisitive and sociable. Because he is quite food focused, he can sometimes get a little grumbly around treats, but as long as this is managed with space between the dogs it doesn’t escalate any further.

We’re looking for a kindhearted, lab loving home for Kipper where he can very much be a part of the family. He would do well with some continued basic training and this will be made a lot easier by the fact he’s so food driven. He’s a moderately active dog who loves a run around outside or a nice long but leisurely walk, and then he’s quite happy chilling out for a snooze in the sun. He can live with children, but we would recommend dog-savvy kids or those 8+ simply due to his size and enthusiasm.

Kipper is truly a golden boy in every sense and has a loyal, loving heart. In the right home we know that he will be a wonderful companion and we’re excited to find his new forever home for him.
