About Layla

Layla is a gorgeous girl who was rescued from a public shelter in Bosnia alongside several other dogs in dire need of help. When she first arrived she was withdrawn and very unsure, likely having never experienced kindness from humans before her rescue. Everything was new and confusing, but with time, patience and kindness, Layla has started to come out of her shell.

Now that she’s had the chance to settle and bond with the volunteers, Layla is showing a different side to herself. She has become much more relaxed and enjoys quiet, calm walks and spending time with the people she knows. She also seems to find a lot of comfort in being held as it makes her feel secure and safe. It’s clear she is still building confidence, but her gentle, trusting nature is beginning to shine through, and it’s nothing that time, patience and love can’t heal.

Layla is currently living in a busy shelter environment, sharing her kennel with around ten other dogs which, understandably, she finds a little overwhelming. While she is friendly and non-reactive with other dogs, she doesn’t yet seek out play and is more content in the company of quieter dogs who match her energy. In a home setting we think she’d likely benefit from having a balanced resident dog to learn from, but as long as her family are prepared to go at her pace and give her the patience she needs, she could also live as the only dog in the home.

Layla would suit a calm, rural or semi-rural home with a consistent routine and an adopter who can move at her speed. She is still sensitive to new situations and could be startled by noise or too much activity, so older children or an adult-only home would be the best match. Although she has not been cat tested, her gentle behaviour suggests she may be able to live alongside a cat given careful introductions.

Layla is looking for someone who can offer her the safety, calm and kindness she’s only recently started to get used to. With time and understanding, she will no doubt continue to grow in confidence and settle into life as a companion, leaving her street dog days firmly in the past.

Please note all our Bosnian dogs arrive to kennels based in Ormskirk when they get to the UK. Adopters are required to arrange collection from there.
