About Morris

Morris is a young (and arguably very handsome) Shepherd mix from Cyprus who has spent his early months growing up in the shelter after being abandoned as a tiny pup with his siblings. He’s always been one of the quieter dogs in his group, and unfortunately this has lead to him being completely overlooked. All his siblings have been adopted into new homes, and he’s been left behind. We’re looking for a calm home where he can start to experience what it really means to belong.

Morris is a bright and eager learner who enjoys having a sense of purpose. He’s already learned to sit and lie down on command, and he looks to people for direction and reassurance. Like many Shepherds, he thrives on structure, focus and routine. He responds beautifully to calm guidance and positive reinforcement, and he will no doubt blossom further with consistent training and the security of a home environment. He’s a thoughtful, gentle boy with a lovely nature and a lot of potential.

Morris can be a little reserved when meeting new people, particularly men, and may initially hang back or even have the occasional nervous wee when overwhelmed. However, once he realises he’s safe, he softens quickly. A few quiet moments, some patience and a handful of treats are usually all it takes for him to show his sweet, trusting side. Around people he knows, Morris is affectionate, engaged and eager to please, always ready for a cuddle or a bit of gentle play. He also likes to give his paw, nestle in close for a cuddle, or sit very proudly at your feet showing you he absolutely does deserve that treat you’ve got in your hand.

Morris is excellent with other dogs and has always shared his kennel without any trouble, both with his siblings and with other dogs at the shelter. We feel he would be happiest living alongside another friendly, confident dog who can help him continue to build confidence and offer companionship. In the right home, he could live as the only dog but having a resident friend is likely to help him adjust and make progress more quickly.

Morris would be best suited to a calm, semi-rural home with access to a secure garden. He would enjoy a moderately active lifestyle, regular walks and plenty of opportunities for enrichment and adventure. Given his limited experience, he would be better suited to a home with older children who can respect his space and help him feel comfortable. He doesn’t have a bad bone in his body, but children can be noisy which is a lot for a new rescue dog to contend with if they’re lacking confidence.

This sensitive, intelligent boy has come a long way already, and with patience and understanding, he will flourish. Morris is ready to leave the shelter behind and start a new chapter with someone who can give him the time, reassurance and all the love he needs to truly thrive.
